70-74 Cuda circle track car build
« on: January 28, 2012 - 07:10:59 PM »
Hi all!
As some of you know I'm into stock car racing......the real kind not Nascar so much anymore. I like "STOCK" cars not what Nascar has become. Anyhow my buddy Darcy ( also a member on here, came to Carlisle last year with me) bought this Cuda that was already made into a stock car years ago. ( so no crying!  )
It is very close to a Chrysler Kit car . It had a few bumps and brusies on it from years of "service" so Darcy has decided to rebuild it. One frame rail had been repaired a few times so we decided to just cut it all off at the firewall and start with a new front clip. It reuses the stock k-frame and upper control arm/shock towers and the rest 2X3 square tubing. Front spindles are 73 C-Body ( Thanks again Bigs! This is where the second set went  ;))   Darcy is planning on a new Challenger body for it. It should give those Chevy's a run for the money! It is compeating in the Street Stock division. By now it should have a 9" Ford floater installed too. Sorry Mopar diehards but there just isen't the gear ratio's available  for circle track racing like what's available for the Ford 9"  Using 73 up B-Body LCA's
Here are a few pictures......

Darcy on the right...

Brad, who's the old coot with Darcy?  :smilielol:

That's Peter, he has build so many race cars, hotrods, etc..... I've lost count. He is an incredible fabricator! Just bends the rules somewhat on circle track cars!  :grinyes:   I often have to deal with what he "creates:

Ya with a dwindling supply of chassis around here due to rust we have had to let more fabricated stuff in. For example a Camaro just needs the front subframe and the rest of the car can be square tube. So Mopar is allowed the same. IMO it's made the Mopars competative once again as before they were just too heavy and no parts( or very little) were available suspension wise. It's a constant battle "holding back the reins" if you will rule wise. Peter ( the older guy) has been in Florida for a month so progress has been at a stand still, I'll be sure to update this as it progresses.
I consider Peter a friend even though at the track we are " on opposite sides of the fence". I laugh and say our "relationship" is like Sam the sheep dog and Wile e coyote...beat the hell out of each other at work then laugh about it later.

Can ya hear the Chevy crowd whining yet?  :aarg:   :roflsmiley:

Brad its looking very good. Im new here but not to Mopars or circle track. I raced a 71 cuda on dirt tracks for over 25 years, same car. Lots of changes over the years keeping up with the  changing rules. When I built the car I based it on the Chrysler Kit car design. I've won many races in it and had lots of fun. Nothing else in the world like sliding sideways on dirt at 70 M.P.H. Maybe I'll dig up some pics and try posting them. Good luck in kicking the bow tie boys butts.
Bill (the dirty racer)
P.S. Anybody can drive a car in a straight line........try going slideways.

Brad, looks like some good progress there.  We dont see many (most times any) MOPARS around here on circle tracks. I'm gonna have to keep an eye out for more spindles.  :grinyes:
