Brake Booster
« on: January 25, 2005 - 08:15:38 PM »
What determines if a 1970 had a black or gold cad plated booster?  I know the Hemi e-bodies had the larger black booster.  This is for a 1970 Challenger with disc brakes. Thanks.

Actually hemi e-bodies had a smaller diameter, thicker booster. I've always seen black boosters on 70-71 cars, the later ones seem to have the cad-plated ones. thats not saying a 70-71 cannnot come with a cad-plated booster, I just don't ever remember seeing one. My hemicuda clone has a aftermarket booster similar to the original in shape and size (for hemicars)...it's for valve cover/spark plug clearance.

I believe they're all supposed to be black; the Cad ones are mistakenly cad as that's what GM had.

Out of the 15 Challenger's  I've owned over the years, none had boosters that were not black.

The master cyl/booster setup is from stainless steel brakes (ssbrakes.com) easy install

The hemi put out 575HP - 612lbs/ft  on the engine dyno. 472 crate with some head work.
