Sitting uncovered & wasting away in SF
« on: February 02, 2012 - 06:21:06 PM »
I'm a service tech that covers most of Northern California. Came across this 70 Challenger R/T in San Franciso, just sitting there in an open carport facing the street. Dirty, flat tires, graffiti on the trunk. You can't see in the picture, but someone wrote on the rear window: "fix this Mopar dumb ass!" I'm sure offers have been left by anyone who's interested, but something tells me the owner doesn't really care and is not interested in selling. I just snapped a couple of pics and left as I didn't want anyone coming down after me.

What a bloody shame. Some people need a smack in the head.

I will say though, it's is undercover and not sitting on wet grass.

Did R/T's actually get that side trim/moulding as an option? looks odd.

It either had the Bumble Bee with no side moldings or it had side molding with no Bumble Bee stripe, they did not do the both together, for obvious reasons.......................... :2thumbs:

Don't think so....

Still, coming from a 'rust belt' area, it amazes me how rust free a neglected car in CA is.

I've got to agree, you never know.  The owner might be hard to find/contact and no ones has been successful so far actually reaching them.  Looks like its parked in a reserved spot for a particular condo/apartment unit so maybe contact the apartment mgr or owner's association???  I would do it myself if I was nearby....  Good Luck!

Figured as much. Definitely looks out of place. No engine call-outs on the bonnet either. Doubtful it's a real R/T.

Awesome colour combo though. White with a red arse. Give it a scrub and it'll look a treat.

Here's my  :2cents: .  That is not factory installed body side moulding.  Factory body side molding actually should car farther back through the stripe.  My car goes back further and I have another pic of a '70 with body side moulding that goes back further.

Also, in the second pic, body side moulding I believe (too lazy to run out to the car) should be more squared off on the ends.  The second pic shows it being rounded.

Also the lack of engine hood callouts rings a bell form some reason.  I wonder if this is actually not an R/T but a 340 A66 special with thee R/T badges added?  :clueless:

Either way, it's a great looking car and would be nice for someone to clean it up and have fun with it.
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

A66 did get call-outs though didn't they? 340 Four Barrel. I think some may have gotten decals though, and not badge/emblems. Could explain the lack of apparent holes.

Unfortunately the original poster of this thread only registered 30 minutes before starting this topic. Maybe an owner trying to build interest in his own car before he puts it up for sale? haha  :stirpot:

I see cars like this quite often since I drive all over the Bay Area doing deliveries.

Rust free old cars are all over out here but they're alot of time very well hidden. Hayward looks to be a mecca of old classics. I saw many looking out the window while on BART in the past.
