Battery Height?
« on: February 03, 2012 - 10:11:23 PM »
So I am working in the car and happen to bump the battery.  It moves.  On further inspection....there is nothing (other than the wires) holding it onto the tray.   :faint:

While looking around, I happened to find one of the threaded J shaped hooks under the battery.  I think I know why they weren't used....The hook I have is 7" tall.  The battery is 8" (not including the studs).

Is the hold down that goes across the top flat? or does it drop down on the ends?
Is it a common problem that battery's are too tall?

It's fairly new (Nov 2010 according to the label) but nothing special.

I don't have the OEM hold down, I just have one of the threaded rods.

For your '74, the hold down is a little different - like my '73. It also bolts to the inner fender.

Look about three quarters of the way down for 72-74 e body.

My 72 has the hold down bolted to the fender as well.

I've ordered the rest of the hold down kit from Dave @ Roseville.  Once I have all the correct pieces I'll know if I need to swap the battery or not :)  My guess is I have the shorter J hook as the threads would clear the top of the battery if hooked to the fender.

Correct hold down kit took care of the problem.  I did only have the shorter hook.  The battery is now secured.
