    how wide of tire can be mounted on a 7 inch rim?

    Trying to decide if I want to run a 7 or 8 inch rally rim on the back..just concerned about the gab on the trim ring with the 8 inch wheel

    On a 7" wheel 255/ 60 series tire.

    I have 275-60-15 on mine but they are on weld wheels, don't think that should matter though.

    You can call up a tire place and see if they have a book that tells the widest tire you can safely mount on a certain size rim.  I know a local place in MA called NTB has that book.  I think the rule of thumb is the contact patch as wide as the rim but not sure.

    255/60 is the maximum recommended size on a 7" rim

    I got that figure too from a chart at some tire store. I guess if someone wanted to push the limit...  :misbehaving:

    Have you seen the 8" wheel with the trim ring on?  I'm pretty picky and the little gap that is there doesn't bother me a bit, but you may see it differently.  What would bother me more is trying to run a wider tire on the back on a 7" rim which is going to make the back tires look different than the front do. I run 245/60 on 7" rims on front, 275/60 on 8" rims on back and the sidewalls look very similar front to back.  Just something else to think about I guess.

    i really havent seen the gap, thats part of my concern...if its no big deal i'll just run an 8 inch as i would like to keep my sidewalls looking similar...any pics of your set up/ a pic of the gap?

    10 years now with  275 -50 r15s on a 7" rim  (magnums, rallyes, and currently Torque Thrusts).

    The 275 bulges out quite a ways.   But it works.  :)

    I run P275/60R15 Cooper Cobras on my AAR  on the stock 7 inch ralley wheels and it handles great  :thumbsup: The wheelwheels are full just the way i like it too.
