Lots of parts, but TOP dollar is normally the asking price.  But lots of members have odd hard to find stuff that you sometimes don;t mind paying for.

Yeah...it's not that much different from eBay but at least when I look at the e body forum everything is actually related to a challenger/cuda and not 500 people trying to sell me lights, seat covers, etc :)

Oddly enough, I've found the asking prices for cars for sale on Moparts are usually more realistic & reasonable than anywhere else.

If I talk to anybody that mentions they're after an old Mopar, Moparts is the first place I'd recommend they look.

Much easier to read the 3 pages of posts here and figure out what is going on, than reading the 12+ pages over there! I think i`ll stay here.

OK, I'm confused (being female, that happens regularly),
If Galen truly identified a car that was being "misrepresented",
why isn't he a hero to forums? Why didn't Dana appreciate him
calling out the car? I would think a bogus car being sold at Mecum
would be a negative for Mecum advertising??

What do I know....

And I didn't read the dozen pages on Mopart either, the cribnotes here
were much simpler.

Well the car ad says Galen Govier physical inspection, not Galen Govier "blessed". is that the dust up?

I don't know? Big money people don't like to be told they are complete stupid fools? That would be my guess. Kill the messenger.

My take on why people don't like Galen is one he has taken money and not delivered in some cases ( so it appears) and mainly because of pride/ ego( on both sides) I have "heard" of him remaking fender tags also, so the "threat" of fraud exists I guess? Too many people want to be "an expert" and don't like it if someone else is "claimed" to be the "all knowing" expert? Sort of a "pecking order issue" But really with the Internet and all the info is free for the looking/asking..... I'd say his days are numbered?  With great people like Barry Washington around etc... why would you stroke Galen's ego? Really most of our cars are not "blue chip" cars anyhow, and 99% of us have no need for a dude like Galen.  I shake my head  :grinno:  He isn't even cheap entertainment!
My "guess" with the big stink at the Mecum auction would be maybe he waited/withheld what he knew till he could "grandstand" and make himself look good. Mecum most likely lost money and reputation because of it?

Don't worry, Laurie.  Most of us guys are usually in a constant of confusion.  Our wive's keep us on the right direction.

In addidtion to what Brad mentioned, I guess some may believe that if there was a bogus car in the field of auction cars, some question why Galen Govier didn't find it before it got on stage as these cars were already registered days before.  I don't have the answer to that one, don't know who does.  But some figure if it's a Hemi car, why didn't Galen sniff this car out before it was up on the auction block being a potentially big auction car and potentially a target for fraud.  :dunno:  Don't know any one who has faked a slant 6 or 318 car...  :dunno:

And I do agree with what Brad metioned about his days being numbered.  Sad but true.  Before all the info was available on the internet, Galen Govier had the expertise needed to help out the Mopar field...for a price yes, but he was the expert.  Now with the internet almost anyone can be an expert on almost anything.  In ways it's sad in a nostalgic way, but I wouldn't trade in my digital camera for an old 35mm camera.  :2cents:

He reverse engineered it from build sheets, fender tags, former employees, documents etc.

It was probably a ton of work, and something he definitely deserved to be compensated for.  Unfortunately once the knowledge of decoding became available to the public, that particular service became a lot less valuable.

Now he is more of a "seal of approval".  His documentation is supposed to certify that the fender tag/broadcast sheet/window sticker/etc is legit.  In the high end collector car world, his name does still seem to carry some weight.

I don't believe that was the car in question.

I believe it was an Orange Hemi 'Cuda that was the issue.

Well, this is odd, there are 2 orange cuda's, identical ads, but different lot numbers....

I actually LOVED this car, I know its a 'fake', but I couldn't find and build it for what it sold for....
