Anyone installed a crate 360/300 in a Cuda?
« on: January 26, 2005 - 09:49:13 PM »
Am thinking about replacing my worn out 383 in my 74 Cuda with one of the Mopar crate 360 Magnums.  Not knowing what I'd be getting myself into, has anyone installed one of the crate engines, and if so, what would else would I need or be aware of in installing the 360?

Thanks!

i put one in my Charger - get Schumacher mounts or mounts for a 340/360 Cuda...    Bellhousing/trans is different, need a weight set for the magnum balance, exhaust manifolds will be different   pulleys and brackets will be different

personally Id pay the extra 500.00 and get the 380hp , every thing you have to change to go to any small block, will work on this motor.

RollingThunder...thanks for the advice, and the pics!   Anyone else out there drop in one of the 360 Magnums?

I'm leaning towards the 300hp vs the 380hp, only because this will be a 99% daily street driver....had heard the 380hp would be a bit much for just the street.

ummmmm   I'm sorry . . . I mean no disrespect.   1500 horses might be alittle too much for the street (maybe) . . . the crate motor for alittle extra money . . .  will definitely be a sweet setup for you!  GO FOR IT!!  No worrys MATE!   :worship:  :worship:  :worship:  :worship:

I'd opt to rebuild that 383 with everything you want in it.The crates have a cast crank and your 383 has a forged. You could build one nice 383 for the money it cost you for a crate and it would be different than all the 360's in countless new mopars on the street. My 2 cents worth. My 383 for my barracuda cost me about 1800-2k to build.906 rebuilt heads w harden seats,9.5 hyper pistons, balanced blueprinted,525 lift engle custom grind cam(recommended by CHryco Psyco). You can typically get engine parts cheap on epay.Got my hyper pistons for 125 bucks, brand new and most of the internal components except the cam. This way you can also say you had alot to do with building your own motor

There's no replacement for displacement, and the torque of a BB to get the tires melting. If the car is Non numbers, dont matter anyways whats under the hood,I say 440+6 :driving:

Why's that?  B/c they didn't originally come with them?

Every '55-'57 Chevy has a 350 chevy in it practically.  Don't like 'em b/c they should have a 265 or 283?  Ditto '32+ street rods; would rather have flat-head V8s?

I say, the bigger, the better; that's the definition of a musclecar IMHO. :guitar:

to much weight , less space, more expensive and thats why they made <71    I like to see a 318,340,360,416 in them. not 440's and 383's
