383 TTI Headers & exhaust Clearance issues
« on: February 14, 2012 - 01:45:08 PM »
So I bought the TTI Headers & exhaust kit(1 7/8,  3") for my 1970 383 4speed cuda. I did not buy the schumacher creative Service engine mounts. I have been installing the exhaust on & off the last month now trying to get it to clear the first Ujoint better. Take a look at the pics. Passanger side is away from joint & I am happy with. The drivers side looks way to close to me. Anyone know how to deal with this issue. I did measure center of crankshaft to each frame rail. the difference was 14 1/2" on pass & 17 1/2" on drivers side. In TTI specs it says a 2 1/2" difference. Center of crankshaft to top of k-frame is 5-1/4", which shows as correct. I do not know if this would make the difference I need or not. I have the #12 K-Frame with the 1965 engine Block also. Any help would be great. I tried spinning header adapter every way that would mate up to header with no luck.

Has anyone had any clearance issues with the TTI system. I think my problem is the exhaust adapter to connect to header. The way its bent does not seem to line up correctly.

it is obviously off either due to the mounts or the bends , you measurements were off I believe .
not sure how to help you though , the pipes are stamped L or R so I assume you have the correct parts in the right place ?

Left on drivers & Right on pass. Needs to be 2 1/2" difference from side to side. I got 17 1/2" drivers & 14 1/2" pass, measured to frame rail from crank center. Needs to move towards drivers side 1/2". Up/Down was right on the money 5 1/4". Is there any way to adjust the original style mounts.

other than replacing them ? Not really , sounds like 1 may have been replaced with a cheap one that was too fat pushing the engine over too far .

I made 1/8" shims for my motor mounts so I could get the headers in the best position possible for clearance purposes. I have a 440/727.
