New old guy.
« on: February 14, 2012 - 03:50:56 PM »
 Howdy all !!

I don't know where to sart. I have a 1970 U code cuda I have owned since 1979. I bought it in Livingston MT when I worked there as a motorcycle mechanic. I moved back to IL and brought the cuda with. The car has been sitting since 1984 when I started a minor resto on it. I moved back to Montana in 1985 and left the cuda at my folks house where my brother sold the original motor, trans, console and seats out of it. It's hard to believe but he is still alive.

I have started busting some knuckles on it to restore it back to its former glory.  I have been lurking around this site and really think it is a great source of info and am looking forward to working with all you.

I have been collecting parts over the years and should have a good start at getting her back in one piece. I have built a stand for the body and removed the rear quarters,  trunk pan, and am getting ready to build a rotisserie so I can blast the shell.

Oh yea 1970 cuda, built 10/13/1969  rim blow , power windows, 6-way seat, am-fm mutiplex, rear rack, rallye dash, power brakes, remote drivers mirror.   Tag shows it was a lemon twist car and had a rubber frount bumper.

Hope the pictures turn out I have never tried this before.              Thanks for having me!!   philze in south east Wisconsin

Welcome, and I'd like to see what it looks like now too.

I bought my car in 78, and there's a load of folks here who've had their cars for decades as well.

Hi All,

I am going to sick with the 440/727 combo, I have 4 motors and trans to work with. Right now I need to get the shell back together. I pulled off the K frame and found one of the weld nuts broken out of the frame rail and another cracked up all around. I also found evidence of frame work from some unknown past accident. I did know one of the tires had some wierd wear patterns on it, but that was in the 1980's.

On the plus side I finished the rotisserie and am well on my way blasting, 6 hours today. I got layed off last week so plenty of time for the cuda!!!
I will post some pics as soon as I figure out how to resize them. I'm not to up on this modern tech stuff I'll have to ask my son to help the old guy out.
Will keep you posted, I'll be needing your help soon I am sure.

Welcome, I also an old guy with a 1970 440 U code 'Cuda, 4-speed.  Mine had been in storage since 1983 when I bought it.  I've been slowly restoring mine for the past three years.  I'm almost ready for paint.  Check out the link below for pics.  Let me know if you have any questions and I help you out as best I can.

I think I got this picture thing figured out. Here goes.

I got the basting done and now she is wearing a coat of ppg epoxy primer.  The pictures are before the paint, a couple before picts and the busted up k frame mount. I figure those spots of brazing and the piece of brazed on metal were from a frame straightning. You can see a strange circle by the metal piece, also the right side inner fender is all brazed in not spot welded. I guess I'll  have to relpace the frame rails to make it right?  Any suggestions?

On the plus side I re fitted the trunk pan and welded in one of the fuel tank supports. I only got the 1 in because I forgot to blast and prime the outer one, it's always something. I bet you youngsters don't have that problem !!!!!

Ron Paul's the MAN with the plan !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
