Well, I'd say you were doomed, if you continue a friendship with intellectually challenged (before I got politically correct, I used to say, stupid) people like "Dave". But the fact that you are aware of the veracity of the video, belies that idea. One of the prime reasons I like America, is the fact that the founding fathers, WERE so far seeing and that their vision is still shared by many in that great country and they're able to speak it freely. In a reference to those ancient Romans; I believe they had an expression that went (roughly) " non illegetimi carborundum" or "don't let the bastards grind you down". Stay the course America, stay the course. Ian

Actually Dave flipped  out on me about politics not long after that back and forth we had on that filmstrip and we haven't spoken since.  I guess his union preaches that members are not to tolerate those who don't support the raising of taxes to support the governments doling out contracts that require that union electricians be hired to do scads of work. Too bad as we were friends from our mutual interest in Mopars.  I enjoy talking politics and it has always upset me that it is damn near impossible to find any liberals that can have a rational respectful discussion of the issues of the day.  Time and time again they just get mad, name call, invent these diabolical plots I am supposedly in support of to drive the middle class into poverty and make the rich richer etc.  I try to be open minded, and quite honestly I get put off by some of what I hear conservatives saying on some issues at times, but if liberals can't have a respectful discussion with someone with an opposing view, I really have to think that there is some merit to the Michael Savage book "Liberalism is a mental disorder".  :2cents:
Back on topic, I hope the Canadian government keeps moving toward easing restrictive gun laws.  The issue seemed to finally have went away here, but sadly I have seen some signs lately that the push for stronger gun control laws is raising its ugly head once again.  Here in this oligarchy a Chicago Tribune columnist calls "Madiganistan", our new city dictator Emanuel is pushing the state legislature to enact a handgun registration law that would require every handgun to be registered with the state at a cost of $65/each and a requirement that the registration be renewed at the same cost of $65 per handgun every 5 years.
And I saw on the news tonight there is a big push to enact a new $5 admission tax for patrons of strip clubs to be used to assist abused women and rape victims,  I have never seen any studies linking attending strip clubs to rape or abuse?  But any excuse for a new tax is a good excuse in this state.  I got to get out of this state, help me I'm trapped!!!

:iagree:  Although both parties ............. 1 more than the other have been failing the republic with a lop-sided representation both have blood on thier hands. The 3 branches of government were supposed to keep each other in check, IMHO that has failed!!!! The executive branch has more power than the legislative and Judicial w/o majority. The judicial is too small or bloated with process to deal with all of the complex issues facing the republic. We are currently and have been for some time in a transition to oligarchy. The massive regulation of private enterprise and the abuse of federal power through Law is slowley bleeding our freedom away. 50 yrs ago my wifes granfather built a 2 story home on his own land!!.. try that now w/o massive permitting and regulation and costs, just 1 example of thousands of laws stealing your freedom everyday. The enemies of freedom will use the RULE OF LAW to steal your freedom. Big Political advocate billionares are influencing the government more than the people. Some of these Money throwers were not even born here and have NO LOYALTY. The Dept of education is teaching kids that we need big gov to make all our choices for us about what to feed our children and that they are the best choice to raise our kids! This Country is in dire jeapardy of falling into the trap of oligarchy and our Debt is a tool used to enslave us , just like Rome!!! There has been no failsafe other than the 2nd amendmant to stop the abuse of Nanny state and the progressivism of Total Government and it has not been used yet. :2cents:
Thankfully we still have the 2nd. amendment. Your observations are spot on. Unfortunatly.

I guess I took my vote on accepting socialism . I sold my stuff I left the country & its rediculous laws behind . Trudeau spent billions which benefited all the baby boomers & sent me the bill , Ihave decided not to repay the bills that did not benefit me at all .
Does any of this sound familiar ?? Obama & the massive debt past forward to the future ??? Canada has basically been under liberal leadership for 44 years of my life & now that we have a decent leader all I get is Emails saying only 38% of the voters voted for the current Gov & we should get them out . I remember when Que & Ont elected Trudeau & the vote was decide long before any of the votes in the west were counted , I bet the percentage was not higher back then .
Now they want to raise the retiremant age for full pension to 67 & will phase this in slowing probably again benefitting the Baby boomer & picking the birth year of 1960 to raise the age , again nailing our generation , I am not even counting on a pension from Canada , I believe they will be bankrupted long before I can get any benefits , of course the Que epople still qualify at 62 years old , sounds fair to me ....Not  :pullinghair:

sadly I have seen some signs lately that the push for stronger gun control laws is raising its ugly head once again.

the ugly head is ALWAYS raising. Liberalism is relentless. It never sleeps or quits. The fight for freedom is constant. The forces that wish to rule and control you are ALWAYS at work. I consider myself a little bit of a history buff, and it doesnt take much studying to realize that these struggles have always taken place. Probably countless times through recorded and unrecorded history, the liberal forces have eventually won out. Its too easy to succumb to it, and fighting to maintain freedom is difficult. Usually within a few generations (if that) of a hard won revolution, people seem to naturally start giving up the freedoms they inherited. And usually the road to socialism and deeper forms of tyranny ends in blood. Many times in work camps, reeducation camps....and even killing fields. At some point the misery is so unbearable that the cycle begins again. I'm not sure where we are in that cycle, but since the US Constitution is now the oldest on earth, I fear its only a matter of time.
Much like the vaunted roman empire that lasted a very long time, the US is an empire as well. We almost certainly wont last as long, mostly because there are stronger and more viable challengers compared to what Rome had to deal with 2000 years ago. The world is a very different place, but as much as things change, the underlying forces and motivations always remain the same.
Sorry for the slightly off topic, but political threads always get me going.

JH27NOB, up here in  :canada: I have heard a few times that you are not allowed to possess a handgun within Chicago's city limits. Is that true?  :dunno:
It was basically true until recently.  Only registered handguns were legal, and IIRC only guns registered when that law went into effect were legal and no additional ones could be registered.  Therefore the only people in Chicago with handguns were cops, the mayors bodyguards, and city council members and other selected government officials who had been granted the rights.  :screwy:
And thousands of street gang members of course.
But with the Supreme Court ruling supporting the second amendment, they had to scrap their defacto handgun ban.  Boo hoo!  They then passed new rules that are still restrictive, like owners have to register and take classes to get the right to register a gun, but at least they can now.
Illinois is the only state in the union that does not have a concealed carry law.  To hear the politicians tell it, that is because we are the only one of the 50 states that has common sense!  Yeah right........ We are also the state with the biggest financial problems and unfunded liabilities.  Companies are fleeing to other states every day, regularly you turn on the news to see our governor Quinnoccio giving a news conference at some large Illinois corporation boasting how he convinced them not to move by paying them off with some huge tax breaks.  Ridiculous, and as time goes on I get more disgusted with my fellow citizens who keep voting for these self serving crooks that are turning this state into what eventually will look from one end to the other like Detroit.  And I was flabbergasted 4 years ago when a "made man" product of this corrupt Chicago political machine was sold to America as a reformer who was going to clean up Washington.  You can't be that stupid?!?!?  I guess we were, he won in a landslide. :banghead:

Wow!  I don't know where to start.  A political thread I 100% agree with!  That doesn't happen very often on the interweb.  Between modern media driven political correctness and progressive liberals trying to push this country into a situation where only the federal government can 'save' us, the world has gone freakin nuts.  I don't know whether to believe that 50% of the American population is still happy with our current president or if the media is once again lying to us to make the gullable think that's the way they should feel, too.  I would say Americans can't be that stupid a second time but I really don't believe that....  I'm happy to see critical thinking and Mopars seem to go hand-in-hand!   :wavingflag:

I think thats because for the most part, we have been around the block more than once. Most old schoolers like us have lots of life experience, we dont mind getting dirty, and we like accomplishing things with our own hands. We have almost nothing in common with the typical 24 year old occupier.

I have often wondered if it had anything to do with not going with the flow / taking the easy route , , we could go buy a GM like most do , parts are easy to get even if they need to be replaced far more often , Mopar people often tend to think differently & take a harder path  :dunno:

I think you are spot on with your statement.!! No quick road.

The sad thing is there may be a short term fix to financial issues but the only way to do that is to dramatically cut government and increase private sector job growth. Unfunded liabilities will kill us anyway I see no way out unless all the programs were dramatically cut and the strength of the family is rekindled. The new business leaders and job providers need a system that does not blindfold them, rob them, and regulate them to death before getting started. Liberals are hell bent on Communism and would rather drag everyone through hell in Hopes of achieving total Government. History shows time and time again the failure of despotism. Insanity wins over again and again in the liberal mind. It truly is a disorder in my view. Most revolutions do not end up with countries being ran by those who start them. When the LAWS break down it is everyman for himself and loyalties are thinner than water. Just because a country is no longer rich, ( from the massive redistribution of wealth ) does not mean it's people do not want to be free!!! Also that does not mean the free people will adhere to the failed policies of the past.  There is going to have to be a Western conference of Nations that adresses the failed economics of the past and forgives debts and eases the pressure w/o massive suffering, There are so many nations with high debt to GDP #'s I am sure a agreement could be reached without merging economies and currency. Enough so that a agreement could be made without worrying what the Chinese, Russians think! since they have done thier part to damage our economies.

  I'll stop now!!

On the bright side I will be looking forward to my vacation in little over a month and will post many pics in my rest thread. I seem to get the most done during devoted vacation time.

JH27NOB, up here in  :canada: I have heard a few times that you are not allowed to possess a handgun within Chicago's city limits. Is that true?  :dunno:
I remember reading about a hunter that was in a wheelchair, that wanted to meet Clinton while he was in town. Secret Service searched him and found a shotgun shell in his backpack on the rear of his wheelchair and Just the shell alone got him in all KINDS of trouble. The ammo itself was supposedly illegal in city limits.
