idk why they'd do it....cuda's were sick, but def don't have the name recognition of the challenger. It would be a dumb move to replace the challenger entirely with the Cuda, IMO. Now if they wanted to make a few Cuda's along with the challenger, I'd be all for that....besides Plymouth isn't around anymore. Don't know how they'd badge it. Very interesting though

They could badge it an SRT just like the next Viper.

I'm all for keeping the Challengers around. That having been said:

1) My opinion, a lot more people are aware of the 'Cuda brand than the Challenger brand. Just think how the phrase "Hemi 'Cuda" resonates.
2) I'd love to see them both in production, but Chrysler production numbers in general and Challenger numbers in particularly probably wouldn't justify such a move. To an extent, a potential 'Cuda would scavenge sales from Challengers, and in the meantime production costs would be higher (for another car line on the same production line) while profits would be lower. Chrysler has never been particularly good at pulling this off.
3) This is just my opinion. When Daimler took over, they wanted to immediately make their mark on the company, so they made a "Charger" that from all appearances is a German touring sedan. I'd be willing to bet that Fiat will have a similar impetus. Rather than let Fiat become known as a musclecar maker, I think they'd prefer that Chrysler be known as a European sports car maker.

so how sure of a thing is this? My dad came home today, and he said "you know they're replacing the challenger with a cuda?" like it was a done deal. It may be a done deal, idk, just wondering

THERE IS NO CUDA COMING.

I actually had a long discussion with the Ralph, Beth and the head of the SRT planning and development as well. And the short... the next Charger/300 will probably be on some sort of combination of Fiat/Alpha/etc... platform... But FIAT doesn't have a 4-door RWD platform at the moment (which the Challenger/Cuda) would be based off of.

So while there will be some sort of platform coming eventually that will be developed in house that will be RWD and have 2-doors (not including the Viper), don't expect it for a few years. Which means no Cuda or Challenger atleast until 2015 or so. Which means the Challenger will be killed off probably in 2013 or 2014 for a few years like they did with the Viper as to develop a new model.

But he did say one thing that was really interesting.... We have been resurrecting some classic name plates... you never know what might pop up next (he then smirked). So we shall see.

IMO 1970's not many could afford a 2nd car. Need a family car.
Buyers already purchased a 67 thru 69 muscle car,

People have a hard time accepting change, 1970 Barracuda, Challenger, against the Mustang, 67-69 camaro.
Now New School Challenger is getting old, no change, except for front' valance turned upside down or down side up.
Now a Cuda, poor choice, hard time accepting change.

Wonder what the 70 Barracuda clay looked before
Engel went into the Plymouth Exterior Studio one Saturday morning to review the Barracuda clays and was not happy with what he saw. Milt Antonick and two clay modelers happened to be in the Plymouth studio that morning. Elwood asked them to help with modifying one of the Barracuda clays, so they worked the remainder of that Saturday and the next day as well, and by Monday morning the basic design of the �70 Barracuda was done.
Like the 70's gas prices going up $5+ Reg. Hi Octane for your ur new Muscle Car?
Cuda will be scrapped.

well at the dealer we have heard and known that the challenger is done after 2013 and in 2014 the cuda will be the replacement, SRT and viper is it own project and separate plateform.

There is no platform for the Cuda. Period, there is nothing for it to go onto. That's the point. SRT is still part of Chrysler and do alot of suspension work with them. They told me flat out that they will be developing a new RWD platform in house in the future. But it won't be until after the new Fiat/Alfa based Charger and 300 is produced. And they will be FWD or AWD.
