Inside hood release cable routing
« on: February 26, 2012 - 10:53:19 PM »
I have a inside hood release and would love to use it. I don't know how it is routed or where it goes through the firewall and would like to see some pictures of how it goes from the dash forward.
Thanks, Jeff

In the process of restoring my car and have no clue how to route the remote hood release cable through the firewall out to latch.  Can someone help?

I believe it goes out through the large washer pump grommet & was run with the wiring past the battery & out where the headlight harness runs

I will mount mine in the next weeks. And yes it will run with the headlight harness. Not sure if it where like this, but AFAIK 1970 where no remote hood release option available. I can take pictures if you like. I have a huge hole in the firewall next to the brake booster.

A better question is: where does the handle mount under the dash?
My car didn’t come with the hood release from the factory, so there’s no obvious screw holes.
Also, I noticed that the cable itself seems too long to work.  There’s about a foot of slack in the cable thus, when the handle is pulled, not enough tension to pop the hood catch mechanism.
- The hood release cable is brand new and when compared to pictures it appears to be correct (it doesn’t look like a C-body handle)
Your advise is greatly appreciated

I already tried mine. There is an other thread here, where I got the advise. 73 Challenger hood release I tried the handle again and it will not be completely vertically. Maybe I have to put some washers under one side (afair left hole) and use a longer screw. Let's see...

I have an original cable and had the feeling, that it will fit, but had to mount first the metal holder to the hood latch grille support brace. Now it looks like on the second picture. The first picture shows it working from an other Challenger. I can measure my original cable if you like.
