Author Topic: please identify my rear seat bench/upholstery, is it 1970 Challenger R/T? (Read 4086 times)

Hi CC-Lovers,

I'd like to ask here after doing some research on the internet.

Can you please identify my rear seat bench. I like to renew the upholstery and I don't know, which one I need. I have a 72 dashboard and my guess is, that also other parts came from an other car.

Attached 2 images from my Challenger and the 3rd is stated that it is an original T/A. They look different if you closer to the upper end of the rear one.

In an other thread here I've read that all 70 - 74 rear seat frames are the same (except the convertibles). That sounds good so far, so I only have to get the 70 repro upholstery then? And my question is useless?

I've found 2 different styles (coachman grain) black and (regal grain) black. What is the difference? Should I take a look on my front seat upholstery to know which is the right one?

That's definitely a 70 rear seat.

The difference between Coachmen and Regal grain can only be seen close up. Just think of the grain being like peddles. The Coachmen is small pebbles, while the Regal is larger. I much prefer the Regal.

Many thanks MEK-Dangerfield. Here is my front seat upholstery. Just browsed this catalog and on page A21 is the pictured question "which grain do you have?" I think the fronts are regal grain.

Those don't look like Challenger seat covers to me. Can you post another picture of your fronts?

yea that photo doesn't look right for a challenger front seat

Oops, nobody noticed it till today. Restoration was done over in US, I guess CA, where the car comes from. Unfortunately I have no history, and I really would like to know who rebuilt it to the R/T-clone it is today.

Nevertheless, here is a pic of my front bucket seats back from the sale-ad, when I discovered my Challenger.

Give the hard seat backs and seat release button, they look like 1970 seats.

I have no clue what model Mopar though.

In case your not aware steering wheel is incorrect, the one you have come's from a 72-74 car.

I know, it came with an aftermarket steering wheel from US, the previous owner in Germany replaced it with a 72-74 one. I'm looking for a payable rim blow steering wheel now...

Maybe that are some "dunno" restoration upholsteries. They are in a good shape and must have been replaced compared to the rear seat bench.

they appear to be 70 front seats but the material doesnt look right

if you go to page 22 on http://www.legendaryautointeriors.com/files/ChryslerCatalog.pdf you will see the ones you need or at least I think so

Thanks, that's the same page I mentioned above. For now I leave the fronts like they are. I will also go for the regal grain with the rear seat.

I saw some seat foams anywhere in the net. Do I need those? Is it more comfortable with the foams?

They looked like this when I got the car. There was a mouse living inside...

Here is a picture I saved off another board when I was trying to figure out what to get for my '70 Challenger front buckets when I was redoing them a couple months ago. IIRC Kissalien posted this picture so props to him for that.

It also looks like the top section of your rear seat has had the top replaced at some time...... The very top panel was most likely rotten from sun damage and became brittle and cracked, so it would have been removed and replaced, you can see the difference in the pictures you posted.
