overhead console install in a non-OC car?

you are correct - got one of those for sale? Do you happen to have the schematic showing how that interfaces with the o/h console wiring? That would be an immense help. None of this stuff is in the 72 manual    

Non for sale, however a harness from a A, B or C body could be modified to work.  The unique thing about the '70 E body harness is the connector for the ignition key is unique to '70 only. If you use the '71 light the connector is easier to find.

Thanks for the illustration Deputy. I think I am close here and can probably make up my own harness to include the time delay relay and circuit. If I understand correctly the X1A-18P wire is hot all the time and the J5A-18Y and G8-188K are switched hot wires.  Is the M6B-18Y a ground wire?

Thanks FY1 - so that lead shares a ground with the time delay relay? I got out the owners manual to my car and although my fender tag doesn't have the A01 code, I think it has the light option that was offered in 72.

In the manual it is described as the "light package" and consists of the glove compartment light, the map light, the panel time-delay flood lamp, fender mounted turn signals, and ignition switch light. My car has all of this but I wasnt aware of any time delayed features for the dash or interior lighting. It goes on to say that the ignition switch light stays on for 20s after the door is closed. I guess I never payed attention to this. So maybe I have the last piece of this circuitry needed already in my car?

I am going to try and connect the o/h console wiring to my existing wiring to see if all of it works. I still need to drill the holes and locate the additional door switches but that should be no issue.

I have made lots of progress on this. I have the secondary attach structure located and installed, all the console wiring run, headliner installed and the console test fit. Looks like its gonna work out nicely except I dont get any indication when I turn the key on. Shouldnt they all light up when the key is on?

See the image below. Connectors #2 and #3 are where it gets its power source. Please correct me if i'm wrong, the #2 bullet connector goes to the yellow 3way receptacle and the #3 connector goes to the existing time delay relay. Should those leads get power when the switch is on? Shouldn't the time delay connector only get power for 20 seconds? I have checked ground to the LF relay and made sure it is grounded well but still no console illumination when the key is in.

i just went out to the garage to check my o.head console lights.
 the door ajar shuts off as soon as the door closes
the seat belt light goes out at the same time (about 20 seconds) as the little blue dash light above the dash light switch
when I turn the key on, only my low fuel light come on for a second and then goes out .
The other lights do not come back on at all with the ignition.

I haven't installed and connected the door switches yet. Hope to get them done today. I'll post pics. Be sure to save them in your rare photo album as it may be the only overhead console you will see in a fabric headliner car.

You need to talk to the people that have an S/E, or an R/T S/E. Maybe Rev or Twofornow can help you.

I really need to get this time delay wiring figured out before I start buttoning things up. I am unsure of the marriage of this 70 console wiring harness to my 72 harness. Please look at the pic and let me know if you can tell where these should go.

1. upper connector - plugs into the o/h console harness
2. & 6. lead is about 2ft long - unknown?
3. lead from the time delay relay
4. pink lead -supplys power to the time delay relay. Is hot all the time
5. Male spade connector - connects to the steering column connector
7. Bullet connector - adjoining connector unknown?

I know the fasten seat belt circuit and the door adjar must have power all the time because both lights should come on as soon as either door is opened. The fasten seat belt light goes out 10-20s after the the last door shuts so the relay must get activated thru the door switches.

Can anyone help me here? The 70 wiring digram wont help me in trying to figure out where the harness should interface on my car. Any advice would be appreciated!
