To Rallye Dash or Not - 1972 Cuda - Questions on parts.
« on: March 01, 2012 - 01:37:51 PM »
Need your help to figure if I should change my dash on my new 1972 is just got to a Rallye like I had on my 1970 when I was back in High School.
The builder installed this standard custom dash which isn't bad in real life but not what I am use to.
I have a guy willing to sell me his old one he has lying around from when he parted out his car years ago.
He remembers everything working.....
He has the guage pod, switch pod and a heater part, but I was told that heater part is not Rallye style.
He is also throwing in a set of never used front spoilers
Not sure if I should go ahead and what other parts or light bars or what nots I might need and if this is really worth it.
Thanks for any help or input, but don't make me cry, its been a tough week for me.
Thanks so much

Just a notice...The heater panel is not Rallye. The Rallye panel does not have the recess for the speedometer.
And my answer to your question. Rallye it!  :ylsuper:

You have a 70-71 rallye cluster.I would sell that one and get the correct gauges for your car,you would get great money for the 70-71 setup, the 72-74  clusters come up on ebay a lot,you will also need the rallye gauge light bar.IMO if you add a cluster use the correct one for your car.

Thanks, I forgot to mention this 70-71 would cost me $630.00
Should I take it and sell it or trade it?

It's hard to say. It looks to be in good shape, but the clock is usually dead, and the tach is dead too, or inaccurate. So if you figure on having those rebuilt, this $630 will turn into $800+.  Just something to think about, unless the seller knows if they work or not.

If money isn't too much of an issue, I'd rallye gauge it.  It just looks so sweet and old school race car style. Mine has rallye gauges and its honestly one of my fav parts of the car.  :2cents:

   :iagree:

I've got a thing for Rally gauges too. I think they must have been the coolest back then.    :bigshades:

If the old non rallye setup works fine, save your money.

I actually just built a custom dash like you have and sold my rallyes so my vote would be to keep it. That being said I really like factory rallye gauges so I guess you have to weigh the cost and what you really want. Good luck.

I like my Rallye setup, much prefer the recessed guages.  I am just finishing redoing mine with rebuilt tach, clock and regulator. Also replacing all the blue light covers with purple and painted the wood-grain a matte black and polished the rings. I do not know if the light bars are different or not but it looks in one pic like you have one in there just not lighted maybe.

The guages you have in the custom dash will probably be more accurate , the factory guages were usualy off at least the tach & clock were , those are the most desirable ralley gauges though , they are the 70 & early 71 with the remote adjusters & 8 k tach but bet on rebuilding them . Really it is your call.
