Minilites finally installed!!! Pics and a question
« on: March 02, 2012 - 09:15:16 AM »
Tires finally came in, got them mounted and balanced yesterday and put them on the car. Here's a few pics

Before:

After:

Closeup:

The fronts are 235 60 R15, rear are 255 60 R15. I'm really happy with this setup, a little drop in both the front and the rear and it'll be just what we want.

Now if I can figure out what's going "tack" "tack" "tack" on the drivers rear wheel/brakes/axle I can get her back on the road. If I touch the brakes the sound goes away. I put rear disc brakes and new bearings on the axles a while ago. This noise appeared then but was just barely audible. With the new wheels/tires its gotten louder now, gonna tear into it this weekend. Anyone ever experience something like this?

Yep 15x8 all four wheels. Everything has plenty of clearance no rubbing of any kind.

Wow!  They look really nice!

As far as the noise, see if the caliper is hitting a weld or something on the inside of the rim.  Had a similar issue years ago when I put a new rim on my brother's T-bird and a big blob of weld was hitting the caliper.  Just ground it down and it was okey doke.  Might be what you have...  :dunno:

LOOKS GREAT!  :clapping: :2thumbs:   if you used the stick on wheel weights check to see if it's rubbing on something? Mine didn't like where they were and left and found a new home?

Thanks for all of the compliments!

Hadn't thought of the caliper rubbing the wheel or the wheel weights. I'll check that out. Something simple like that would be awesome.

It did make a "tick" sound with the old wheels, now its much louder.

Wheels and tires look great.  I'm curious to hear your opinion on how those Firehawks handle the road.

I have those same tires and sizes on my car, and a 455 Powered Buick Regal. They are by no means an "ultimate" handling tire but best bang for the buck IMO?  10X better than the BFG radial T/A "hockey pucks" IMO   :2cents:

That's a great look.

Did you check/repack/replace your wheel bearings recently?  If not, you probably want to.  Ticking that gets worse with larger meatier wheels & tires could end badly if left to itself...

It turned that the outer brake pad wasn't really seated in the caliper very well. With brakes off it was slapping the caliper, making the "tack" sound. The rotor must have a very slight warp in it or something. Anyhow, repositioned the pad and the sound is gone.

Gotta check the lights and take her in for an inspection. It'll be nice to finally get her on the road again! Thanks for all the suggestions everone.
