Looking for a VIN and fender tag for a 70 challenger produced in LA california.

i purchased a 70 Challenger which is rust free from colorado. the last 8 of the VIn on the cowl, radiator support and rear deck lid area match and say it is produced in LA Califronia. There was no fender tag or dash VIN. I am looking for a VIN and fender tag for a 70 challenger produced in LA califronia. If anyone has any ideas how how to get a VIN please let me know. The rust free rolling shell was only $1500. I thought it was a god deal what do you guys think.

You need to take it to the DMV and apply for a new vin

Going to the DMV in michigan is worthless. they can not help they said. Any other ideas.

It will be on the title, without a title / VIN it's just parts.  You can still build it (have fun) and the state will do an inspection when you're done.  At that time they will issue you a new VIN and most likely rivet it to the door area.

BTW, the VIN is not on the rear deck lid area on E bodies.

Shouldn't be there... I've seen a LOT of e-bodies and never have I seen it there.  Would love to see a photo.  There's always a first for everything.

Unfortunately, you will be unable to get a new state issued vin until the car is a working car.

Check Hamtrack historical.  They might have your tags.

That's a GREAT place to check.  They have TONS of records and might have your original fender tag or at least a photo of it.

Dang that was a good day.  Two T/A sheets out of one car and a smoking deal on a numbers matching RUST free west coast T/A.  Man I wish it was last month again.

Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but the VIN is on a decal on the driver's door jamb, so if the car has original doors, maybe you can scrape a layer of paint off and find the decal.  Also, never heard of an E-body's partial VIN being stamped near the trunk.
