IF YOU HAD 5 MINUTES TO MAKE A CHOICE ORIGINAL OR NEW CHALLENGER

I started to think about choices and I will probably be ready to buy a new car soon and have been trying to decide wether to go 70 Challenger OR new. I like all the new safety features and how well the new ones are built But there is also something about a 70 Challenger.
I have been trying to decide by wondering what I would do if someone offered a completely frame off restored  70 with critical modern upgrades to suspension, steering, wiring rust proofing, etc. equipped exactly how i would want it OR a NEW challenger with the same & both for the same price., but only gave me 5 minutes to decide. WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE ?

The new ones are nice and perty I would not say no , but a real 70!! Easy choice I would go with the origional.

I would probably decide on a 70. Mainly because they are easy to work on and I like to keep busy.

A new one would be a lot more comfortable and dependable to drive to carlisle in.  But I still love the 70!

I'd take a frame off restored 70 every time.  You can get a new Chally anytime you want...not many opportunities for a restored 70....

I love my new style Challenger but one of the main reasons that I bought it was it looks like the original.  If all things being equal, performance and safety... no brainer  ORIGINAL.

Not that it really matters but the original will hold resale value a lot better.

70 for sure!! The old cars are more than just a car.  They are an antique, a blast from the past every time you drive it, and hearken back to a simpler time.  Like an above poster put it, new challengers can be found everyday.  a 1970 challenger is a rarity.

The new Challenger tugs at the heartstrings, but I have wanted a Challenger since December 1993. Do I have to say what I would go for!?

When I was buying mine I had the choice new or old. The local Chrysler dealer heard I was asking about them and ordered me a loaded black SRT.  I just couldn't do it, as beautiful a car as it is. I just  figured an old one goes up in value, no emmissions tests, cheaper insurance....? There is just something about the original that I just couldn't shake..... yep the new oneis more comfortable, handles, and brakes better but.....?

You didn't state your budget, so figuring in that....

In the long run, a new Challenger will be cheaper. By the time you find a restored 70 and spend the money on upgrades to it, your cost will be far beyond what a new one would cost. Plus the new one will get better gas mileage.

If your buying a car for just weekend cruizing go 70-71.The fun of owning an older muscle car,with true pony style and horsepower is the best. If you look at resale its hands down.Check out all the new ones for sale on ebay,usually its only one or two bidders.The older ones usually has more action.If the economy ever gets better,I might consider a newer one but 1or 2 years old because of depreciation.I like those Mopar10 cars with a 4speed ,blue strip treatment.

I had the choice, a new 2010 Chally or finish my '71 Barracuda.
The Barracuda won out
- She's already a classic
- I almost love her (she pisses me off too much for full love)
- She's going to keep and hopefully increase her dollar value

Don't get me wrong, I really want a new Challenger, but, there's only so much $$
- Can't talk the wife into getting a second job

The rotisserie restored 70 Challenger with upgraded suspension, steering and all new / updated components (wiring, etc.) is the easy choice!  That is a high dollar car, and can make a fully loaded, brand new SRT8 Challenger look inexpensive. 

The modern Challenger is hard to beat as a practical, all-weather daily driver and can provide excellent performance and makes a tremendous freeway cruiser.  The e-body is always going to be more fun as a fair weather toy.
