Wouldn't take me more than 5 seconds to pick original old school true muscle :burnout:.

Wouldn't hurt to have both though, 5 mpg doesn't cut it in a daily driver.

Thanks everyone, When I get ready to buy, money will not be an issue if things go as planned. I have my truck and the wife will be getting something new she wants and i will get what i want. A fully restored 70 challenger is what I have always wanted, ( had 2 chargers back in the 70s and if i didn't get a challenger i would get a nice 69  charger R/T. To bad the wife wouldn't decide on a new challenger for her then i would get the 70, however she wants a small SUV. I had a feeling the majority would go old original Challenger. thanks again!

Ill bet if you went to the new challenger forum you would get the opposite answer to your question...

Buy a '70 already restored.  Then get a beater car or pickup as a daily driver. You Wouldn't want a '70 to drive every day.

1. gets fairly good MPG if you stay out of it.
2. Nothing compares to driving the original.
3. Getting asked to pull over to take pictures, and "Gas pump" car shows . Nobody does this in the new Challenger.
4. 500 HP and a 4-speed
5. Hemi Cars will sell for nearly triple what a new Hemi one will sell for.
6. WAY cheaper to Hot Rod
7. Can repair most times on the side of the road without having to sell off my first born to pay for repairs.
8. Live rear axle. 
2011 Dodge Challenger.
1. Gets "Ok" fuel mileage if you stay out of it.
2. Doesn't leak water when it rains.
3. Cost WAY too much to Hot Rod.
4. Weighs in as much as an old skool New Yorker
5. Drive by wire Gov./ Big Brother crap
6. Must have some kinda suffisticated MDS crap to get decent fuel mileage.
7. 420 HP and 6-speed.
8. Safer in a crash.
9. Plastic "Copy" of the original

I am thinking 70 all the way.    No one looks twice at a new one like they do if you pull up in an original.  The original was a classic and always will be ...... why else would they remake it almost 40 years later.   Of course someone willing to shell out for a new one would want all the modern technology .... for obvious reasons. 

Nothing like the original.   Hands down ..... I don't think that I am alone on this front ...... based on the responses I read.

As an owner of both, hands down a new one.  As far as attention is concerned, both of mine seem to grab their share.  I've had a 440 six pack and cruised in a hemi car, but they in no way compete with the overall ride and performance of a new Srt.  Not really even close.

17 people said old school E-body (1970-1974 Barracuda/Challenger)

IF you find exactly this

70 with critical modern upgrades to suspension, steering, wiring rust proofing, etc. equipped exactly how i would want it

I'm sure you would enjoy it much more and it would be fine for when ever you want to drive it.

So hands down 70  :2cents:
WANTED 71 cuda / barracuda project. Prefer Black but open.

The 6 speeds with 2 overdrive gears actually get better gas mileage than the MDS-equipped automatics, and is about double the mileage of the original cars with either a 727 or 4-speed.  The current 392 (6.4) delivers a strong 470 hp at the crank.  Best results for a bone stock 392 SRT with slicks in ideal conditions is 12.0.  That is a tremendous result given the 4200 pound curb weight.  My 2009 R/T rides better and is quieter at 70 mph on the freeway than the Infiniti G35 it replaced.  Smooth and quiet is not what I want in a toy, but it is great for cruising the freeway...

This is a great and tough question!  I think it ultimately depends upon the type of car you are looking for.  I now own both an old school Challenger and a new one.

They are both great, but in their own way.  The new ones are super comfortable, very smooth/quiet, very responsive, sytlish, and loaded with lots of creature comforts even in the base model I have.  It's very fun to drive.

My old school 440 Challenger is also fun to drive, but in a very different way.  It's more like a loud, flashy car with the graphics on the hood and side that scream 70s muscle car.  This makes it fun in its own right.  It's also very rare, as I don't see vintage Challengers on the road in my area.

In short, I recommend both...  :naughty:

How come the 1978-1983 Challenger option wasn't in their too as a choice!  :bigsmile:
