March 10th Delivery
« on: March 10, 2012 - 07:34:01 PM »
For those of you that knew I was going to get my Cuda today well I did, UNFORTUNATELY :swear: it doesn't run.  I'm sorry I don't have any pics yet, I was working on it all afternoon and was so angry I never took any.  Plus I had to push it in my garage once I got it. It started once then just stopped.  After tracing down issues I believe I found out the problem.  It has an old Mallory distributor in it.  All the other components are MSD.  Well it appears the rotor burnt thru to the distributor shaft and the current was arching onto the block thru the shaft. I called who I got it from 3 times with no return call.  When you spend "X" amount of dollars you expect the car to run.  I will change out the distributor for an MSD but it just burnt me up. I wasn't expecting to spend 3-4 hours working on it the first day.  It has a MSD 7AL box in it, any suggestions on a nice MSD distributor for a small block?  I promise pics when it is fixed and I can drive it out of my garage. I need to clean it properly.

I feel your pain! Been there. When I finally got my car after 4 months to ship it from CA to me here in Canada! :pullinghair: It didn't run anymnore either. Rubber all up the right rear quarter panel, rear end was blown up , driveshaft hanging on the ground, steering column smashed, tranny badly leaking, front valance smashed in, outta gas and a dead battery. But other than that it was great! >:(
Gotta love DAS auto shipping! They just dumped it and ran.... over 4K in damages.

I don't know about the 7AL on the street? I was under the impression that was a race piece? I just ordered a stock distributor and used a 6AL box, been running great for 3-4 years now! :2thumbs:

Keep your chin up, after the first week of tearing up the streets you will forget all about this. :burnout:

I like the Mopar Performance electronic dist. I use one with an MSD ignition. I wouldn't toss the MSD ignition though. IMO, much better than the 40 year old stock technology.  :2cents:

I will look into the Mopar electronic distributor package.  Where is the best place to get one? I am very familiar with MSD though.  In general the car was advertised as a Pro Street vehicle. To me that says it will pass state inspection so it can be registered for the road but yet can also be run at the track if wanted to.  They never disclosed items about the car that would preclude that. After getting my head together I found out the following about the car; Besides it not starting, the speedometer doesn't work, not even a cable in place. All the factory gauges were disconnected and they don't light. There are no wipers or motor for wipers.  There is no horn, The head lights only work on low beam, and there is no parking brake.  That says to me it is way more a drag racer than a streetable car.  But it was advertised as a car that can be driven back and forth to work then go to the track on the weekend. Can I get opinions as to the cost of making all the above back to working order? Up to tonight no one has called me back so tomorrow will be interesting.  Bottom line is I ALREADY have a race car, I didn't purchase this one to be strictly a racer. I wanted a Pro Street.

Thanks for the vote of confidence shooter.  You're right about having it.  I traced down what I think is the problem; there must have been a bad plug for awhile because the spark discharged thru the rotor down the shaft.  I ordered a rotor, cap, and new module, should be here tomorrow so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  I'll post tomorrow if it is up and running!

I'll check out Mancini Racing Thanks.  Well I got home yesterday and was disappointed that my order didn't arrive.  It amazes me when you pay an extra amount for 2nd day shipping and it just doesn't matter.  The parts should be there today so when I get home Iwill install them and see what happens.  As for my other issues the seller is refusing to help me out.
