dash switch overhaul?
« on: March 15, 2012 - 10:28:20 PM »
My instrument floodlight switch and windshield wiper switch are acting funny.   The flood lights flicker when I wiggle the switch.   The wipers are a mess but I would like to get the switch overhauled to take it out of the troubleshooting mix.

Can someone point me in the right direction.   I would buy new switches if I could find them without ebay prices.   Even if I bought them off of ebay, there is no way to tell that they would work any better than the ones I have.

Have you taken one apart? These old school components can be resurrected with a little TLC and 600 grit.

Honesty,  I haven't taken one out of my dash.   Do the switches come apart with screws?

Once you remove the switch panel part of the dash, the switches un-screw from behind. Once you have the switch in your hand, you need to bend small tabs outward to disassemble the switch itself.

IMO, the switches from Slotts are better than NOS. They haven't been sitting around around for 40+ years, each one has been tested, and when did the factory ever use a stainless steel coil wire in their dimmers. I use them.

Thanks guys,   as soon as I gets some other things done, I will send Slotts an email.

I will also be looking into getting my wiper motor and rear window defroster motor redone.
