Any members do a full XV conversion

Just wondering if anyone on here has done a full challenger or cuda with the xv stage two products.
Trying to figure out if it is worth it to go with absolutely every e body product they have or not.
Seems like a pretty sweet set up with everything.

The only things I know about xv is that everyone seems to complain about their customer service.

Aside from that, every post I have read makes me think their products are superior with all the testing they have done with the systems.
Not to mention that they have complete kits.

Yeah, I have done it. I love how the car transformed, and how its performance is. It's an absolute corner-carver and those brakes are the best I have experienced in ANY car!
I have never had a problem with their customer service, always helpfull, always responding to my emails. Talk to Scott Landis, he's excellent! I recommend the XV suspension warmly. I do think the chassis stiffening kit is a nessesity to make an e-body capable of hosting a coilover suspension. Shout out if you're wondering about something. Also I have some treads here about the installation.

That is what I wanted to hear.

Spending 10 + K for the system I would expect answers pretty quick if I had any problems.

I will research your threads.

Was the installation really as cut and dry as they claim it is on their website?

The front is pretty straight forward, but the rear is a little bit more messuring such, but I would have done it much faster a scound time!  :lol: They have revisited the rear with a torquetube for the swaybar, looks like it might be a little easyer with that. The thing with the Level II is that you have to remember there are not many headers and oil pans that fit with it. Depending on what engine you run, GenIII Hemi is no problem, LA Small-Block like me, you're on your own.

We have a 70 challenger in the shop right now that has the Level 2 kit front and back.The K Member is suppose to  e for a 440 motor.The motor does not line up.The car has a Shaker Hood so things need to line up.No matter what I do with the Motor Mounts it will not line up.I was very dissappointed at their customer service!I put in the mounts in everyway possibleand could not get it to line up.When I called up XV Peter said that I probably installed them wrong and that all I need to do is shim them.That did not work.I just talked to Bill at RMS and we will be putting in a Alterktion.The rear will stay XV hope its good.We have another Challenger in the shop and it will get all RMS com ponents front and back.My opinion go with RMS.

Berna,

Let us know how the AlterK front and XV rear work together.  The AlterK is much cheaper and more designed for the old motors where the XV is meant for Late gen Hemis.

Anyone considering these RMS, XV, etc. suspensions should read the article by Richard Ehrenberg in this month's Mopar Action. The guy is a Mopar expert, and what he is saying is downright scary if these are used for daily street use.

Does he speak from experience?  Doubt it.

The only one I wouldn't drive on the street is the Magnumforce racing one.   If gonna do the XV, get the billet upper arms as I've seen their welded steels ones come apart.

I've heard of ZERO issues w/the RMS Alterk.  Someday hope to install mine.

I haven't read the article but E Burg has been saying for a long time that these kits are garbage and they are death traps waiting for victims. That is just in line with his mantra that if it aint stock, it aint $#&% and only factory engineering is worth a spit. Heck, even when I was involved in the online debates a decade ago about tall spindles, he was spouting this stuff off. He is a very smart guy and really knows a lot, but he also has a very narrow view on acceptability of changes at times.

FWIW, the developers of the XV Level 2 kit has also said that they reviewed the Alterkation set up for use in their cars an decided that would rather develop their own line than use Bill's product. They felt it was not a robust enough design to suit the applications they wanted to direct their products towards.

Myself, I have no beef with the AlterK or the XV. Even Magnumforce would be made acceptable with some work. I just can't afford the price of entry for the results acheived.

I'm going with the Control Freak system front and back in my 70 Challenger convertible.  This is the same system Mr. Norm puts in the new Darts. Will handle alot better than stock.

The stock suspension might be non-breakable but I'd question its safety by today's standards.  I can remember almost rolling my car on a freeway on ramp 25 years ago.  It had the front and rear sway bars too.

I do not have any personal experience with these kits, as they deviate too far from a factory suspension for my tastes as well as appear to hang lower than the factory stuff. Without reading the article though and ignoring these very important facts regarding these race suspensions, is to do at your own risk. You also are required to sign a waiver when you purchase these kits, that should say something also. As far as I'm concerned I would not go this route but to each his own.

A lot better than stock can be subjective. I'm sure my stock set up will hang with a hang coil over set up quite nicely. Only difference is mine is a bit heavier and I can't quickly change spring rates. Precision and performance are by products of component selection,precision assembly, and alignment. IMO, the biggest reason so many of these set ups handle so much better than stock is that the sellers are setting up spring rates and shock valving to compliment each other. Ther eis no guessing by the end user.

I'd also question the safety comment as well. You do know that the vast majority of today's SUV use torsion bar/leaf spring suspension and they seem to operate very safely on the nation's roadways. I can't comment on the situation you were involved in 25 years ago as there are too many variables that I don't know and you may have forgotten, but I'm very confident that the stock set up is very safe.
