Dave, are you coming to Carlisle, as I need a black pad for my '71 Challenger, with A/C, 1 speaker. I could bring my old pad and make the trade. Let me know. My e-mail is: bobbeat@videotron.ca

Thanks

Robert

I am just saying..another choice. Now with that said, this is where it's get's hard. Most of the time these cars don't set out in the sun, bad weather like they used to. You have a nice, but not orginal car to redo. Now with so much to buy, do you spend $925.00, for a metal frame,or $545.00 for a abs frame.. now how long will  the cheaper on last?? Good question, only time will tell. You will never find a good used one, and it has to be better than a cap..Now all of the new cars have plastic dash and almost everything else. Dave, i am by no means knocking your product, just another choice. You do a great service selling part's for cars, that used to be real hard to find. All of us, need people like you. I am making list myself, to order part's that i need..With so much to buy, you have to find the best deal you can.. thank's ..  Jackie

Welcome to Mopar pricing!!!

I have a good deal of Ford racing in my past and you have to look at it this way.

In the day, Ford made millions of Mustangs, Mopar only made ~50k Barracuda/Cudas in 1970. So it really comes down to supply and demand. Not much supply/ low demand so prices head skywards.

Jackie, I agree with your reasoning. Two things to add. I don't think Dave sells repro dashes at $925, but check with him to be sure. Second, if I recall correctly, someone here got an ABS frame dash and said that it warped the first time it sat in the sun at a show. If that's true, and it may or may not be, I wouldn't think those pads are worth it.

Just FYI so there is no question.   I bought a dash from Dave at Roseville.   It is built on an original metal frame and the fit and finish is great.   It is worth every penny.   It is kind of a centerpiece of your car.   Not something to go cheap on.

If you want to try an ABS dash on the cheap, there's one listed on ebay as imperfect:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Dodge-Challenger-Dash-Pad-ABS-cored-/261026979474?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cc66b9e92&vxp=mtr

BIN is $385. My guess is that you won't be happy with it, though.

You can't argue with the price.   :grinno:

I'm sure Year One is charging at least twice that. Do we know for sure that the ABS core will warp in the heat?

Even better, the opening bid is $315 and it's got no bids.

I have tryed these dashes and they are crap!!!! ....Just dashes is the only one that have been good but you will spend $900.00. The abs cores don't fit and the rap job looks very bad, wrinkes...so on and so on.....

I wonder if it would be possible to fabricate metal reinforcements? I'm guessing it wouldn't work very well, and for the amount of time it would take to get it right it would probably justify the extra scratch for a metal dash.

Yes, dash is something you see and look at all the time.  Getting it right is worth the effort / expense.
