    To tell you the thruth I'm not 100% sure. I bought cans (waaaay back and I didn't know any better). Then they said closer to the time they will get the proper stuff from a corwd up North. I'll find out the next time I go around, sheesh this is bad of me don't even know/remember my engine paint.  :laughing: :coffee: POR-15 I'm sure but I won't commit just yet.  :thumbs:

    Iwent the spray can route the first time and like you was not happy after a season of wear and tear. I pulled the engine last winter and had a body shop spray it together, following the factory method. Everything but the carb got orange paint. I talked to the PPG paint guy and followed his advice using their Concept line. He used a color library PPG has access to in order to convert the original formula to the modern day formula. He said it would hold up better in the heat of the engine bay. So far, so good. I did install an intake manifold block off style gasket to keep the paint from cooking off of the heat cross over passage under the carb, but that leads to some cold start aggrivation.     Yeah, I would like some more info from you FY! Challenger.  How is it holding up, what was the advice, paint formula if it's any good, etc.

    I did bothe my RR and T/A with PPG base/clear. It hols up great and will stay glossy for ever. I have 4500 miles on the RR and it looks as shiny today as it did when I intalled it. To stop the burning intake you need to get the gaskets with the crossover block off. That is what I due, your not going to drive it in the winter anyway. Just lean out the choke and it will work great.

    This is the RR's engine when I put it away a week ago. The paint is 4 years old with 4500 miles on it.

    Thanks Rare T/A.  Do you know the paint code (guessing it's V2 or EV2)?  It looks a bit bright (but very good) so maybe you used the body Hemi Orange (which I hear is a different shade).

    The color I used is PPG Deltron 20000 DBC base coat. The code is DBC2186 HEMI Orange. I first primed them with DP40 I believe was the primer.

    I used a similar paint to what Rare_T_A used, there are some pics here:

    I used PPG DP60 epoxy primer and basecoat/clearcoat, haven't done the clear coat yet, but it looks really good. I had my local paint shop match up a spray can from Mopar Performance for the street hemi orange color. I know that the spray cans are kind of a crap shoot for consistency, but I thought it looked pretty close. Kinda funny, the primer is real close to the factory light blue engine color, made it look like a low perf 383 2 bbl motor before putting the orange on.

I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

    this is how I do it as well. but I havent ever used a base/clear on my engines. i just use single stage over epoxy. just make sure to have the engine CLEAN.

    after doing my first engine this way i said i'd never go back to rattle can engine paint, and ive seen the por15 engine stuff change colors. so im not gonna touch it.
