1972 challenger 318 auto
« on: March 22, 2012 - 01:59:16 PM »
Whats it worth.  I have the build sheet and the fender tag.  I'm not sure if that really makes a difference with a 318 car.  I cant come up with the tag at the moment but she was a factory air car with non power disk brakes.

Kinda hard to give a wiw with those pics. Seems like a decent looker from a distance, but it has primer and under coating covering everything.. The interior looks to be needing everything.  Including the dash pad.  A safe guess would be 2500/4000, with 4 being the high side of the haggling point, It would make a good hobby build platform car, but it would be upside down in your investment when restored, being a 318 car . Looks like a fun car to build :2thumbs:

I forgot to add an interior pic, yea it needs a dash pad and I used the old door panels.  Carpet, headliner and seat covers are new.

It looks very clean from what I see.  I'd love to start with something that doesn't need any metal replacement.  If all the metal is good...and it just needs paint, interior I think it could go for a lot more then $4000.  If you can do your own paint and interior...and you don't go crazy with the engine...you wouldn't be upside down on that car.  You wouldn't make any money on it but you may come out even.

Of coarse that all depends on if the body is really rust free.  That's what's going to get you top dollar.

the only rust really are the small holes in the trunk pic. I replaced the left quarter, left drip rail, trunk filler panel between the back glass and trunk and half the right quarter.

yea, she runs pretty good, doesn't smoke but I'm sure the 318 is stock with headers and an intake.  I have a tag and ins on her.

In my opinion,  I would love to find a car this complete and able to drive home for 4K.
And the tag and build sheet of course.

This car, I think lies more in the 7K area.  To the right buyer.

Economy and different time's of year for selling do make a difference.

However, I have not driven the car, measured things, looked at symmetry of said car, welds and filler from the metal replacement, previous wrecks, general condition,etc.etc..

My opinion comes from just wanting to drive one of these cars. Nothing to do with fixing up things, putting fancy upgrades on, rotisserie restoring, paint for that matter.

Post more pictures for more opinions on what it is worth.  And the Fender Tag.

To me, this car has to be judged on what it is, not what it was.  Yeah, the AC is gone, no power brakes, 318 engine.  Being that's it's a '72 I don't think it makes as much an impact on price.  The car IMO looks pretty solid from where it stands, does need some work.  Would need to see more pics but I think $6-$7k if the metal is solid.  Looks like it was a Top Banana car?

Top banana?  I thought I saw some green on the engine bay.

Merlin, That's why the fender tag is so important to some of us.

Smack your big walking staff on the ground and make that tag appear!

Ill find the tag, I thought I knew where it was but I must have moved it.  It was a gold car w/white vinyl top and white/gold interior.

For a gold car that is a pretty slick color arrangement.

its looks decent but the trunk floor has some holes and probably getting thin,,whats the floor pans like ? have you looked close ? and the undercoating can hide alot unless it left the factory with it put that looks like somebody sprayed it out of a can on what I can see,,and the inner fenders have primer on the top side hinge area,(could be hideing rust ?"),have you had them replaced ? if not there is a good chance that behind the hinge itself it is bad and needs work, they are bare metal behind the hinge no paint from the factory and without seeing the rest of the inner fender and up close of the frame rails I can only assume the worst,,overall all you can see is that its very fixable but I wouldnt go above 4 to 5k at the most,,cant see enough to give it any better value,,

With the scarcity of all Challengers these days, a rust free complete running car like that should easily bring 10,000.  There are people out there looking for this one.
