Anyone running 18" on challenger?
« on: March 23, 2012 - 07:13:09 AM »
I want to run 18" rims on  my 70 challenger. Can someone who is running 18's let me know what size tire, and rim with, there running?
I want to run a wheel that will fit and not rub on a stock application. Do I need to keep the stock backspacing or change it for a wider tire?

Check out this sticy thread  ;)

http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=19470.0

Checked out this thread and got a lot of useful info. A lot of it is for modified rear's.

I have decided to go with 17x8. With 4.5 back spacing.  245/45/17 all around, will this combo fit with a stock set-up?
Also could I go wider in the rear?
Thanks

About the widest you can go in the front is a 275 wide with a 26" height.

The rear is more generous but the leaf spring location is the biggest obstacle for a wider tire.  I run 275/40 17s on all four corners with 17x9 and 5" backspace wheels.  It only rubs turning into my parents driveway.  It was worse before the rear sway bar.

The back will accept a 5" backspacing with no mods?
In the front I have decided to go with 17x8. With 4.5 back spacing, 245/45/17 has a height of 25.7" high.

If I go with a 275/40/17 in the rear, do I need a wider rim and different backspacing? This will keep the same height of 25.7"
Thanks

You can do up to about 5.5" backspacing in back.  Not sure in the front.

My 275s are a tight fit on 9" rims.  They actually should be on 10" wides, but it has more to do with my tire sidewall.  Some brands are more forgiving.

The only tires that have rubbed on my car are the fronts.
