Not that I want to hijack this thread, but the first photo of the blue 'Cuda piqued my curiosity and I did some reading up on it.
Turns out it happened late last year - a 65-year old man was driving in his hometown of Glasgow, DE, when he ran out of gas (in that 'Cuda). He waited for family to bring him some gas, then rocketed away from the side of the road at a very fast rate of speed. He lost control of the vehicle only a short distance up the road (probably still in eye-sight of his family) and slid sidways into a utility pole. From other photos I found, the pole was sheared completely into two, and in fact so fast that the pole actually remained upright. The car was instantly bifurcated, leaving a small portion of it against the pole. The other two sections tumbled to the resting point you see above, the engine at some point spilling out and rolling into the weeds. The driver was ejected and from the other photos I saw, they lend belief to the possibility that he too wound up in multiple pieces. He was killed instantly (though that kinda goes without saying.)
I posted those photos in retaliation to Jamiez attempt at humor by posting wrecked Viper photos. But I feel compelled to respond to Daytona's question about "taste."
I work in the construction business. The primary focus of my company - as well as other construction companies around the contry - is SAFETY. As a result, I'm literally
challenged to constantly provide topics for discussion and awareness related to safety on and off the job-site (and mind you I'm not-much-more than an office dweller - rarely going onto construction sites myself.)
A few years ago I used the story of one of our members who's Challenger dropped on top of him while working under it in the garage - my topic then; "Even when at home, think safety first."
I actually used this car accident as a topic for safety discussion yesterday afternoon. My main bullet point was that sometimes we can get our pride bruised by making a mistake or having something unfortunate happen to us - like running out of gas in our "fun" car, or dropping tools, or forgetting to follow a procedure. Often our response to that bruised pride is to try to quickly "play it cool" - by showing off, horsing around, or even some sort of retaliation. In my opinion that's what happened here: this guy was embarassed by running out of gas, and attempted to redeem himself by showing off and "being cool." As a result, he's dead.
So Daytona, is it in good taste to post pictures of fatal car accidents? If sharing those pictures and that story helps to keep
other people alive by giving them the opportunity to learn from someone else's mistakes, then absolutely - yes - it serves a purpose.
That being said, that truthfully wasn't the reason I shared the photos
here, and for that I will apologize. I felt that Jamiez pictures were insulting and childish, and I retaliated in kind.
And all THAT being said, I leave this thread to return to it's original topic. In fact I was chatting with my wife the other night, and think I have a strategy for actually getting my Viper into an upcoming CC.C Calendar. You'll just have to wait and see how I intend to pull it off...
