Finally cut in the carpet and got the 4 speed linkage just where it needs to be.

Nice and smooth!

I am coming to the realization that I don't like interior work as much as I like the mechanical pieces.

Alas, I finally got the shifter boot on. I will also pass on a trick to those who travel the road I went down.

If you do not mate up the shifter boot ring with your floor and pre-drill your holes before you lay the carpet down you can still pull off drilling the holes. How you ask? Well since your carpet is down you need to burn some small holes with your soldering iron (8 to be exact - through your boot trim ring - I would also advise taping the trim ring down so it will not move around) then you need to get your drill bit out and tape up all but the first 1/8 inch of the drill bit. This way the bit will do its part without grabbing too many carpet fibers and turning the whole event into a twisted mess. I used blue painters tape, but you can use almost any old tape. Rinse and repeat and your daunting task will be done.  :2thumbs:

I remove my trans and boot multiple times during the year in the different cars. I use an 1/8" AWL to line up the holes one at a time, before putting in the screws. Once you have 8 holes, no reason to ever have to drill anymore.

Still have to drill the hole in the first place but yeah I used a pick to line it up before the screws went in.

Here's one from the files of what NOT to do:

Had the windshield put in before the car got shipped out to me (several states away) and now wished I had not for several reasons. The first downer is that the guy used polypropylene and not butyl tape and I don't know if his helper was a moron but one side was almost put on correctly while his helper decided that pressing down the window was the appropriate action (NOT!) So this basically left high spots and low spots (bad install).

Anyway, long story short since the windshield was placed too low on one side the dash would not swing up into place and it kept hitting the glass. (See second pic with the gap) So the glass had to come out and since it wasn't placed in correctly cracked like hell when pulling it out.

At least now I can get the dash in correctly which is the only way I will do a Cuda from now on and will recommend that everyone here do the same. It's just not worth the hassle to try and get the dash bolts in there on such an angle with the glass installed.

Onward and upward!

Sorry about your windshield.   :(  I'm waiting to get my dash assembly in before I even attempt to put in the windshield.   :2thumbs:

Is your headliner in yet? You may want to install that before the winshield.

My glass guy is coming by Sunday afternoon so this sucker will go into high gear!

Next up, slam on the rear disc brakes and then focus on the wiring for the car.
