    NOS Dixco hood tach

    I'm seeing prices all over the place from $200 to $1500. Anybody have any idea what they're really going for?

    And while I'm at it, a couple of years ago I wondered aloud what a hood tach would look like on a TA hood. Somebody back them said they thought they had a pic of just such a setup. Anybody have one?

    You can get a new copy fairly reasonable

    Yeah, my thought was that it wouldn't fit well, but a couple of people said they liked the idea, and someone said they had a pic and it looked great.

    I have an NOS Mopar branded unit and I'm trying to decide if I want to sell it.

    I'd sell it.

    They never came on Mopars and I think they look kinda goofy on our cars (Pontiac wanna-be???).

    I saw a show on TV called American Muscle Car and in an episode talking about 71 mopars they show a 1971 440 cuda with a hood mounted tach made by Dixco that says HT/x on it.  The car has a non-rally dash.  I had never seen that done before.  Real?  An add on?  They say the car is a very rare example, and they call the tach "mounted" but they don't say anything about whether or not the factory did it.  Is it possible the factory mounted a tach like this on only one, or a couple cars?

    As far as I know (which is not very far) none of these came on cars from the factory. I ordered mine from Direct Connection, around 1983. At the same time, as I'm fond of saying, I think you could get the factory to put on any part that would fit, for a price, so I'd never rule it out completely. And one final thing is that years ago, many magazines and books called items "factory original" even if they were dealer-installed; they just didn't make the distinction.

    I started a thread under For Trade to see what kind of interesting thing I might be able to trade mine for.

    I guess when I think of hood tachs I immediately think of the first gen Firebirds and '68 and up GTOs.

    Do you have any pics you can post of a Mopar with a hood tach?  :clueless:

    The coolness factor is definately there.  It's not like putting a big honking Autometer Tach on your hood, looks more stealthy.

    I found a pics, on a boxy car it looks a little out of place, IMO...

    It's ok, just weird looking aftering seeing so many E-bodies/Mopars without one.  It sort of breaks up the clean lines.  Don't know why they look more at home on a Pontiac, maybe just not used to it.  :dunno:

    I think it would work if it was lower and wider, I.e. shaped more like the TA scoop. As it is, yeah, it breaks up the lines badly.

    NOt a fan.  Cherry bombs or side-pipes were period-correct aftermarket add-ons, but does not make them any cooler on a Mopar.
