I'm not disagreeing on this point in particular, but I would NOT use that book for a restoration or as an authoritative source for E-body information.  It has numerous well documented inaccuracies.  Its does have some nice photos tho...

Ya, I know, but he might want to check it out. After all, up to this point, he has kept his car #s matching.

According to Paul Herd;
Part #3417069 was an option on a GC after Nov 25th 1969, option J54. It had to include hood hold down pin option J45. The call outs on a 340 would read 340 Four Barrel.

So it was not an option on early cars (mine was built in Oct).

I think if you have a rare numbers matching car, addition of a part that was at least available is not a bad idea (to each his own). After all, it is known that some options missed getting on the fender tag.

And it's a great hood.

thanks for the info,Mine was built dec 9 1969,must have been close to the last 70 models built

Dec 9th 69 was only 3-4 months into the `70 model year so would be fairly early iin the producton run.

Once again...I agree with everyone.  Keep both.  I did, and you would regret getting rid of either one.  Hard to come by!  I just put on my rallye hood on friday.  Changed the look completely!
