Neighbor got b & e'd
« on: April 03, 2012 - 07:56:12 PM »
One of my neighbors is in Texas this week for his son's wedding, so I've been feeding their dog in the morning and turning on their carport light at night. Went over to flip the light on tonight and noticed the door into the house was open and the light was on inside. I quietly walked out of their driveway and called a neighbor who is a cop who came to take a look. I got to see him do his cop thing and we found that the kitchen window had been damaged and they got in that way.
I've been planning on getting a 4 camera video system with NVG for the last week and I think it might just be time to pick it up this week. I'm also going to look into a handgun for protection since I've got cars that people expect to be expensive and some electronics that I don't plan on parting with involuntarily.
Our neighborhood is normally pretty quiet and snoopy, but I think today we all dropped the ball.

Getting a handgun is useless....

Getting a handgun, taking lessons from actual professionals and practicing on a regular schedule can make a huge difference.

I already have training. I don't plan on ever having to use it but I will if I have to. I'd much rather just use the cameras

The only thing with having a handgun is that you have to be home to use it on the thief.  If no one is home, no one to fire the gun.

Get a couple of these.  From what a security expert once said theives can predict and disarm an alarm, but animals are unpredictable.

We have 5 dogs. 4 Chihuahuas and a pitbull mix. None of them are all that useful in the robber munching area, but they're pretty loud and my neighbors pay attention when they start barking. Midget's good once the bad guy is down though.

Apparently the burglars fire up a weed trimmer to make noise and then while one guy pretends to trim another breaks a window. We're going out to look at camera systems today.

That's the nice thing about dogs, whether its a Presa Canario or a Pomeranian, as long as it barks its 'home security'. Thieves hate barking dogs. I have 2 greyhounds, they have the tactical ability of goldfish, but they bark. And mommy has the toys if more security is necessary.

You never know with those Chihuhuas....we had a Chihuhua mix and a German Shepard/Lab mix and the bigger dog was very docile but you NEVER pissed off Gigi.  She was really mean when she wanted to be...  :22yikes:

Hemi the Psycho Dog is the back up for Midget.

She used to have her baby teeth and her adult teeth at the same time. She looked pretty scary with double fangs
