2013 DODGE VIPER UNVEILED!!!
« Reply #45 on: April 06, 2012 - 08:32:20 AM »
Depends on where you live. Where I am that house you just described would cost over a million dollars, you couldn't buy a condo in a really bad part of town for $120k. So $120k for this car is a great value in my book, especially considering it will dominate just about everything on the market regardless of how many more hundreds of thousands they cost.
Even the ZR1?

Curious to hear what the weight is? I'd assume lighter than the last generations?

I was there for the press days. Was right by the race version when it fired up. :-)

The lightest version is the Track Package version. It weighs in at 3297 lbs. The GTS is the more luxurious version. Later there will be an SRT version. So would that make it the Srt Viper SRT, like the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari?

Prices have not been announced so anything you here is rumor, including this. I talked to several well connected people and heard you would get change for your $100,000 bill for this car. But probably not much. The next version would be 20-25K more, but I'm sure there will be options to raise that price.

And to think that the original Viper in 1993 was priced at $50,000.  It had no radio, no solid roof, no glass windows, no air conditioning, boasted 400 horsepower, and weighed in at 3,399 pounds...

Hey kissalien, can I have your press kit?  :)

Even the ZR1?

Considering the 2012 ZR1 runs the Nurburgring in 7:19 and the 2010 ACR Viper runs it in 7:12 I would say the ZR1 is no match for the Viper.

Yes, plus did you see the deal about the seats?  Sergio made them rip them out cause he called them Barcaloungers, which is what is in the ZR1.  The Corvette has the absolute worst seats in any high end performance car.  GM said they couldn't get a race seat manufacturer to design a seat specifically for the Corvette because GM would not pony up the money for it.  I believe they can be put in as part of a $20K or so option package on the ZR1.  As crazy as it sounds, $100K for this car is a pretty good deal.

And don't forget that they're still one of the very few completely hand-made cars in the world.  For CHRYSLER, that's really something.  I'm actually surprised that with a carbon fiber-and-aluminum body, the price didn't go substantially higher.  I don't think the Viper has EVER used Carbon Fiber (at least for the non-race models.)

No, but I bet a lot of people probably already have them on eBay if you really want one.

Don't forget that they can now leverage all the expertise developed by Ferrari with regards to exotic materials and low volume production. The Ferrari style seats are why taller people can now fit. That's a plus, but it also means that the Viper will never be the fastest vehicle made. There will always be a faster Ferrari. That's the hierarchy in the FIAT family. That's the down side.

I talked to Ralph about that a couple of weeks ago and he said that is not the case. I will bet you the Viper is still top dog. He said there is very little influence from Ferrari on how the Viper is built and how well it performs.

That's not what he said on Wednesday. And the F12 is probably faster since it has more power and a better power to weight ratio. Of course it's way more money too.

these "track records for a production car" probably require a certain minimum production run which Ferrari doesnt meet.
If Im not mistaken, I could have sworn I recently watched a youtube of some street ferrari do a 6:59 at the ring.
Watching those in-car videos reminds me of racing them on my xbox. The game resolution nowadays is that good.
They even have the graffiti on the right parts of the track!
Of course, in real life, there is no reset button with a million dollar car. Theirs only a huge "oh...shhiiiiiii&*%$t!!"

There actually is no production car record at the Nurburgring. So take everything you read about it with a grain of salt. Not all manufacturers take their cars there. Ferrari is one of those companies. They have no need to since they own their own race track. I don't think Lamborghini or Aston Martin do either, though an Aston wouldn't be as fast as a Viper.
