Fender Tag Remake
« on: April 09, 2012 - 03:16:03 PM »
We are building a 1971 Hemi Clone with some modern upgrades. I would like to get a new fender tag with the correcting codes to match what the car will be, orginal VIN will stay as is of course. I have already found someone that can make the tag but I am wondering if their is any site or anything out thier where you can put in all your car specs and get the correct codes that should go on the tag?

Please no flames about creating a fake tag, it will be pretty obvious to any real car guy that it is not an original HEMI car.

I wouldn't even try to duplicate an original tag.  Instead, I'd have a custom tag built.  Get creative and space the letters out like the factory code system.  I've seen some pretty cool ones.

I think the place your looking for is datatags.com

Haven't used them, just heard of them.

Okay, so I'm confused. You want to make the tag look correct, but "car guys" will know it's not. And the guys who don't know tags and codes either won't look at it at all, or will not know what they are looking at. Huh?

All I am looking for is a list of codes for the options. We all have our own ideas, none of them are wrong.

Others have done the same thing, and I may eventually do something like that myself. Go for it. I'd like to see what it looks like when you're finished.

Most places work the other way.  Lots of programs on line that will decode an existing fender tag.  Not to many that will build one from options.  I guess put one together and there are a few guys on here that can check it out for you to make sure it is correct.

:iagree:  Your b est bet is to just make what you want, and not worry about originality

Yea I think I will start putting some codes together and see what I can get. My original has alot of the stuff on it that I need already: hood piins, road lights, buckets, consule, black interior, ect.

need to change engine, tranny, and color which I have already figured out.

Need to get codes for AM/FM, shaker hood,GO wing, billboards, rims, tires, thoose are what I can think of off hand all might not even have codes

GTS sells books of production codes (which are what appear on the fender tags).  They aren't cheap but they are handy if you're a numbers junkie

I would suggest you have fun with the codes.  Be sure not to change the VIN on the fender tag as that can lead to some sticky problems later.  You might be honest about the car not being a real Hemi now, but if the next guy isn't and it gets traced back to you... VIN fraud is federal crime stuff.   There are some people that went to jail for doing just what you are talking about, but let the buyer believe it was a real Hemi.

Have fun and I'm looking forward to seeing the fun tag!   :woohoo:
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.
