1971 aar cuda? Mentioned on a recent Mecum episode
« on: April 13, 2012 - 06:11:11 PM »
I just put on my tv and there was a 70 aar cuda up for auction (beautiful car by the way) on mecum. One of the announcers said there were a handful of 71 aar cudas made is this true ? This is news to me would love to see one if it exists! This was on the Meacum Auto Auction season 5 episode 18 Houston Tx pt 1 of 4. Anybody else catch this or am I hearing things?

The announcer needs to pick up a e-body book. I'd say no way.

I do have pics of 71 aar cuda' clones though. Want me to post them?

I'd say they would bring about the same money as the 73 Hemi cars! :icon16:  ::)

I've never heard this, even as an urban legend. My guess is that the announcer might have been mixing up the AAR with the (very likely) urban legend that a few TAs were built before HQ decided to halt production.

Yeah I didn`t think they exist the Mecum announcers usually seem pretty on the ball. When someone sees this episode I was talking about and the red AAR is up for bid at $55,000 is when they mention it. I just checked my listings it`s on again at 10 tonight on the velocity channel, i`ll have to listen again see if I heard him right.

The announcer needs to pick up a e-body book. I'd say no way.

Yeah post the pics and when i`m done with my car it will be the ultra rare 72 AAR! :ylsuper:

He does say they made a handful of them in 71.  I have it TiVo'd :)

But during the Edsel Pacer he makes a correction that it was only a 1970 car, but that the 340 six-pack was available in 1971

The non-aar hood on the yellow one kills it for me.

Green one looks good though

Yes a real T/A AAR will have a rear antenna among other Trans Am Specific options. But They could also be ordered with a radio delete.

There was a rumor  about 71 T/A because of a factory photo the was around. It was really a 70 that the factory had the grille from a 71 airbrushed in. I think it was an early promotion photo in case they did realease a 71 T/A.  I have seen the photo and if I remember right it was a yellow car with a black vinly roof. Definitely no 71 or 72 or 73 T/A or AAR's ever built.
