moving rear springs in?

I'm putting bigger wheels and tires on but the space between the tire and the spring is not as much as I want. I noticed that front spring spacing (48")is 2" narrower than the rear spacing (50"). Is there any reason I can't move the rear in 3/4" on a side with out moving the front location? I may need to put a small shim in the outboard bolts of the front hanger but that will be small. I also realize the pin in the spring will be off location to the axle saddle but I can fix that. Maybe make up an offset lowering block.

There are kits sold to do just that.

Yes I know. I was under the impression that when you move the springs in you had to move both the from and rear mounting points. I just want to move the rear mounting point.

But your pivot point is the front spring perch. That means if you move the rear
inward 3/4 inch, at midpoint you only gain 3/8 inch. If you want to obtain 3/4 inch
then you will have to go with the relocation kit. That would put a lot less stress
on the front bushing and bolt as well.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

yes you are right about moving only about 3/8 at the axle saddle. The tire will come into contact with the spring father back toward the shackle so the distance will be greater but it will be less than 3/4". I'll probably end up moving both the front and rear mounts. It was a thought anyway.

Doctor Diff has offset rear shackles but it will not move it very far .

True, but E body springs are splayed wider at the back. So while you may only move 3/8" at the axle centerline (which is in not the spring centerpoint, BTW), your gains in the rear segment where the tire will actually hit will be more like 5/8" to 11/16" depending on how tall your tire is.

You'll still need to alter the axle hosuing seat location with this method, so if your going to that trouble, you might as well go the full 3/4" route.
