New Guy in Central Texas
« on: April 16, 2012 - 12:42:14 PM »
Hey guys.
Yet another new guy here! A little background on me.. I am an aircraft restoration specialist and painter. Long time mopar fan, and occasional car restoration guy. Right now I am restoring a 1970 Barracuda for a customer/long time friend of mine. It was purchased new in Austin Texas, still has the dealer emblems (Jay Smith) on it. It was sold to the current owner(s) in about 73.
Im just starting the project, and I can already tell its had some body work done in its history.. nothing bad, just a cheap ass scuff and shoot paint job in about 74 or 75
The car has been sitting since 1977 in his parents garage and back yard from time to time. It was stolen in 75, recovered in 76. and parked in 77... until now.
90% of the car is here with exception of the block, crank and transmission. Im sure Ill have a lot of questions for you guys, I hope you can help me out

Unfortunately the guy doesnt have a huge budget to completely restore this car as it should be done. So this will be a lite restoration, get it running and on the road again. Then it will get rust holes patches, interior spruced up and painted orange again.
Anyway thanks for having me!
Painter John

Giddings huh? I have a good friend here in College Station that's from Giddings.  I'm working at getting an Industrial Engineering degree here at Texas A&M so I'm not very far from you.  Maybe my friends know you, Giddings is a pretty small town.  Welcome!

Thanks guys! Sorry I havent been on much lately.. winged projects have been eating up my time..
BUT, Last night the engine arrived for the 70 barracuda project!! Its pretty crusty, but it is complete.
Taking it to the machine shop in the next couple of days, so they can un-crusty it.. not doing anything wild, just a normal rebuild.

I could really use a bellhousing if anyone has such thing laying around
