AMD Cuda Front Windshield
« on: April 18, 2012 - 09:26:22 PM »
Hello all,

Looking to get a front windshield for the Cuda.

Anyone purchase a front glass (tinted) from AMD direct and or Summit with any problems?

Also how is the quality on the AMD glass. If there is no difference I can have a local Safelite dealer do it but they don't know who their glass is made by..

Thanks Vin........

I met with Safelite before. Most of their glass is not PPG.
They told me PPG is over rated. I disagree.

PPG glass has been around along time and is proven.

I believe they use Pilkington.

At any rate, I believe most auto glass now is all coming out of China now.
Including PPG.

Hey Mike,

Who makes AMD and do you know how thick the factory glass is?

I cracked mine and threw it out before measuring it....

I don't know what mfg'r they're buying from. I would call em and ask.
Now I'm curious also. Post if they tell you.

One other tidbit of information:
Next time you're at a Mopar show, wear polarized sunglasses. (good one's like Ray Bans)

The sunlight on a sunny day reflects off the plastic inside the 2 sheets of glass.
After a while, you'll be able to tell a OEM glass vs. a repro by the plastic reflection pattern they give off.

You know if the Giants are in 1st most on the year they choke at the end, maybe they will play average ball and come on strong in late August..

Great to see Posey's back, hope Freddy Sanchez gets better...

I also got this AMD windshield,,, hmmmmmm installed it and both lower corners could be curved in more as it doesnt set tight in both lower corners. (extra thick 3m winowweld fills it the gaps) Now the trim doesnt clip in as the glass sets flush with the top of the clips not allowing the trim to snap into place.  Maybe its just this car thats like that or could it be related to the high quality of the manufacturing process back in the early 70's.  You know how tight quality control was back then.

Figured out the problem as I pulled it back out.   hitting the dash in a few places and theat holding it out as well as gently massaging (with a hammer and dolly)the lip where it sets along the bottom.  Looks like I need to pull the dash and try to lower it and pull it out towards the seat a little and it looks like it will fit right in..  Just what I didnt want to do was pull the dash after i have it all set up.  O well,,  stuff happens  :faint:

Doug you are correct. The bottom corners are sitting up because the glass is not curved enough..

The driver side lower corner is so bad I can not do anything with it. If I use a thicker butyl like 3/8" I'll never get the mldg on..

Called Summit and explained the problem, they said they will take in back, no problem and refund payment in full..

I am gong to call AMD anyway to let them know about the glass so they maybe can correct that problem in the future....

Will probably go with the thinner Aftermarket PGW glass..and hope that works...

Thanks Vin...
