I scored the aluminum ford rim today at a scrap yard.  :2thumbs:  Now just gotta find a tire. The scrap yards all seem to strip all the tires before they go out in the yard. Here in Ontario the Government gives them $5 for each tire  and they fill up scrap bins with the steel rims after they crush them, same with aluminum rims....
I got lucky and found this one laying in a pile to be processed.
I see from e-bay that the 155/90/16 tire comes on quite a few cars!....
Acura MDX, Honda Pilot
various jeep models
Hyundia Tucson
Dodge Avenger, Caliber,
Nissan Rogue
Chevy Equinox
Saturn VUE
Buick Rendevous,Aztec

I may have mentioned it above, but GM S-series pick-ups are an abundant source for the 155-90-16.

Found a tire and got it all mounted up! I bored out the rim about .060" ( I think it was?) so it fits the Mopar axels.
Thanks for the idea! Love the weight savings!  :2thumbs:

I believe Lincoln Continental and its Ford counterpart also have the aluminium unit. Just have to machine out the center a bit.

Brad,

That wheel you've got looks different than the one I used. More offset?

That's most likely on off a later Crown Vic. About the same offset as the jeep spare. Test fit it to check your brake clearance, particularly if you've got 11" drums.

Will do!  It was just sitting on a pile of rims at the wrecking yard, I have no idea what it's from?  I have DrDiff's 10 1/2'' ? rear discs.

I just tried it on the front and it rubs on the Viper calipers even with the 1/2" spacer I run. I added another 1/2" spacer and it clears fine. I'll have to keep an extra spacer with the spare. The studs are plenty long enough.

Bloody brilliant idea mate, love it! I like thinking outside of the box, so will definitely steel this idea of yours for my Challenger. I had a 245/60 in my trunk, a little heavy but for weight distribution and traction I was happy but less weight is always nice and the 245/60 was only for a front puncture. I had a "Fix-A-Flat" tyre inflator can for any rear punctures. I'll still keep that in the trunk with the portable floor jack. Finding one of those 155-60R16 rims in NZ will be all but impossible. Looks like eBay and yet another order where shipping will be 5 x the price of the actual product hahaha. :( :o

Also, how do we know what will work with our older 5x4-1/2" BP? I had a quick search of eBay and none of the damn sellers tell yah. Will any modern MoPar tyre work on our setup or? See this list, plenty of nice new shiny rims, but no real fitment info.

Reviving this thread as this has been on my to do list since, well, 2012.  I've been looking around for the aluminum wheel and noticed a few variants out there.  Does anyone have a part number of the wheel with the proper offset?.. Thanks.

Just happened to check an email account I never use anymore and found the new post notification.

I don't have any Mopars in my fleet anymore, but I've still got this spare sitting in my garage.

I'll offer it free to good home. Local pick-up only (Evansville, IN).

Next time I'm in the garage, I'll try to remember to get the FoMoCo p/n off the wheel.

I also bought a donut wheel/tire for my 74 Challenger.   I still have 14" wheels with 235x60x14 inch tires.

I measured the backspacing and searched the pull-it-yourself salvage yard until I found a 15" donut and like new tire, that had our 5 lug 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern, and proper backspacing.   Yes the 15" donut had the same nearly the same tire height as my 14" 235x60 tires.

I also had to grind a little of the center hole, to fit on the front wheels, and no problem for the rears.    I think it came off of a Dodge Mini-van around a 2004 time frame.   Not sure...   Didn't really care..  I think is was $20.

Also, I was missing the jack and lug nut wrench.    Hate bumper jacks, so found a Scissors Jack and folding lug nut wrench.   $9 dollars, and I put them into a nice black bag I bought.   Oh I also had to get (from salvage yard) 5 standard lug nuts, as the cones that I have for my normal wheels wouldn't work.   Salvage yard thru them in for free !!!
