Stripes - decals vs. paint
« on: April 20, 2012 - 04:21:14 PM »
Are there any disadvantages to having stripes painted on, versus using decals?

The only disadvantage is if you grow tired of the stripe, it's not easy to remove.

As long as the tape line is crisp and you bury the stripe in the clear, I like the look.  I've seen some cars with bad masking jobs and the lines aren't crisp.

I would have fear of painting them on. You would only get one shot of getting it right.

It'll be TA stripe (or similar) to go along with the TA look, so I think I'm safe there, but that is a good point.

If I do it I'll be having Tony paint it, so I have faith in his abilities. Yours are painted, aren't they Mike?

NO WAY!

In fact that is the second set of stripes I put on my car since I can never remember to remove my belt before I work on the engine.   :banghead:

OK, Mike, OK, calm down   :villagers:

I could swear that yours were paint, but I guess I'm wrong. We are talking your 70, right?

Yes. I'm flattered that you thought they were painted on though. I must have done a good job of waxing.   :grinyes:

You wax right over them, then? Do most folks leave them bare?

I think you should be able to wax over a gloss stripe but a matte stripe shouldn't be waxed.

painting them on may cost more, but they last longer.

Thanks for those pics, Steve. Once I'm ready, I'm definitely getting either stencils or decals from Gary.
