Best engine adhesive?
« on: April 22, 2012 - 01:08:26 PM »
Just had my engine rebuilt and about to put all the sheet metal back on and was wondering if anybody had a suggestion on the best engine sealer for the oil pan, water pump cover, etc... Once the motors back in, I don't want it to be leaking all over the place. Thanks

Gaskets, with a minimal amount of permatex ultra black for the corner joints. I also use a very small amount of weatherstrip
adhesive to hold the intake gasket, oilpan gasket and valve covers in place. Let the gaskets do their job. You can
usually assemble 4-5 engines with a tube of silicone when used properly.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

So if I use Right Stuff, I shouldn't use the gaskets?

Ford actually has their own RTV that is very impressive. You can buy it from the dealer and I highly recommend it. It was designed for their diesel trucks and is used on the trans pan as one of its applications. After working at a diesel shop for several years I have seen this stuff work wonders.

I agree 100% and would suggest using the gaskets also.

I have the 904 pump pressure maxed right out in my 69 Cuda and have no leaks at all.
It is $$$$ but I can't see taking a chance with my engine/trans as those were way more $$$$$ than a can of sealant.

I just put a brand new oil pan on 7.3 Ford diesel using this stuff with no leaks and if you know anything about the pan job on these?the dealer wanted $2500 to do it as you would have to pull the engine out to replace.

Good to know. I'll be getting this for sure. Pain to know I worked on it for little bits of time over a month and it still leaks!!  :stomp:

CP got it right - called Right Stuff - and horribly expensive but it works. Fixed all my leaks and does not harden so easy to get things off later.
