Most powerful "production" V8, but cool nonetheless

Extremely impressive; especially given the better fuel mileage than the ZL1.  But at $60-65k (not including dealer markups), it's still a Mustang with cheap interior and barely any difference on the outside than a $27k V6 Mustang.

And hardly ANY difference between a 2010, 540HP Shelby GT500.

I think they should have changed the outside a bit and gussied up the interior some more to differentiate it from lower models and justify that kind of price.  Now ALL 2013/14 Mustangs (incl. V6s) has the Shelby GT500 nose on it.

I think it's a good looking car. My biggest issue would be that Ford's cost-saving measures include mounting tires that don't even com close to standing up to their motors. Not sure if this one fits that bill or not, but for that kind of coin I'd expect a car that was ready to be driven as hard as the numbers promise is possible.

If it can go 200MPH as they claim, then tires are not going to be an issue (except replacing from doing so many smoky burnouts).

Yeah I think the DOT would be all OVER Ford if they weren't putting appropriate speed-rated tires on these cars.

662 horsepower!!!  Holy COW...  That's 22 more horsepower than the 2013 V10 Viper!  That almost sickening...

I dunno how this body is different from the 2010 Mustang, but I've always thought that the front of those cars had an awesome, menacing look to them.  The backside I felt however was too rounded and somewhat-Mitsubishi-Eclipse lookin'...

They are appropriate speed rated. They're not appropriately sized to keep the car on the road, at least vis-a-vis the competition. the last Car & Driver comparo I read, the Challenger beat the Mustang, not by having more power, but because the Mustang tires could supply enough traction.

Ford definitely has it going on, they are building superior products that offer more bang for the buck. The mustang has the challenger beat in every form (V6 vs V6, GT vs RT, GT500 vs SRT8) in almost every category. The only car Dodge has to compare with the new cobra is the new Viper - a car that cost almost twice as much. Yes, the new viper will be considerably faster due to the difference in weight but its still pretty sad that Dodge's halo car is being compared to a mustang.

:iagree:  It is a sweet car! They really did a great job on it when Mopar and Chevy did a good job.

I wish I could believe that there will be a horsepower war. If there is, GM and Ford will be fighting it. Chrysler's typical response since the 80s to a superior car is to say "Well, yeah, theirs is fast, but fast isn't everything." And I don't really suspect that Fiat is going to be motivated to get into this, especially since they're dropping the Challenger anyway. As I've said elsewhere, my impression of Fiat is that they want to be known for European sports cars instead of American muscle.

Didn't they start saying something like that in 1972?  :clueless:

"The way things are today, maybe what you need is not the World's hottest car.  Maybe what you need is a well balanced, fully instrumented road machine."

Mustangs in general you have to respect how fast they are but the Terminators  :worshippy as far as stock fast cars go....
