Rims and Tires
« on: April 30, 2012 - 12:30:48 AM »
For future reference where do I start looking for getting better looking rims and maybe tires to go with them? I am pretty new to the whole resto mod but I just bought a 65 Barracuda and thought maybe I would change the look to it in the future.

Summit, Jegs, Tire Rack are probably best first look places to start. However, you have a small bolt pattern hub which will severely limit choices unless you covnert it to a larger bolt pattern.

Is coverting to larger bolt pattern a tough thing to learn?

Either swap the axles and the spindles, or just use wheel spacers.

I would look to Jegs (instead of Summit).  We got Wheel Vintiques for my Challenger and noticed, after we had mounted them, that there was a manufacturing defect (basically a dent in the wheel).  Jegs went out of their way to take care of us, sending us a replacement wheel (while our wheel was in the mail) with free shipping (both ways) door-to-door in 2 days.

We went back to the tire shop (America's Tire Co) and one of their techs told us that he had purchased some wheels directly from Wheel Vintiques and the company's policy was basically a no-return policy once you've opened the box.  We got pretty lucky going with Jegs.

I have always had great luck with Jegs customer service as well.  Not that Summit or others are not good.

Depends on your ability.  The rear is real easy, just an axle swap.  Do you have drum brakes up front? if so it would be worth a disc brake upgrade along with the larger bolt patter upgrade for fronts if you are going that direction.  But its all what you can afford.
