new part store radiators
« on: April 30, 2012 - 12:30:55 PM »
Has anyone ever bought a new radiator from a parts store for their E-bodies?  I'm wondering how close to original they look.  I don't have $1000 for a Glen Ray rebuild and I'm leary of having a local guy work on the original one.  The tanks need some work and I doubt a local guy is going to take the time to straighten them.

If they look fairly stock and have the inlet/outlet in the same spot, I might just go that route.  I can always have the original one gone through down the road if I want to.

Parts stores do not carry OEM 26" replacement radiators anymore.some do carry the 22" inch radiator,Classic radiators will have one built for around 500.00.No part number on then but they will look stock and the shroud will fit.

This is a 22" with no shroud.  I think the part stores are in the $200 range.

a few years back, I bought a 26 in radiator from autozone for under $200.00. The hitch was that I ordered a 3 core for a 76 dodge pickup 318 or 360. The two upper bolts were right. I think the drivers lower was right, and it took some trimming and filing to fit the lower passenger side. It might be a hair taller than stock, but clears my rallye hood just fine. It also does a heck of a job cooling. If you go this route, order a pickup rad and be certain that the needed inlets/outlets are in the correct location for your engine. It does not look concours original, but good enough for most people.

He's on the list of people to check with.  I stopped at a local place yesterday too.  He said it would be a minimum of $200 and could go up to around $500 for a recore.
