merry christmas to me.
« on: May 01, 2012 - 01:55:55 AM »
Hi all.
This is my first post but I have been on here since december just after buying my non numbers matching, running and driving 74 cuda. I had been wanting one for a long time and after getting home last may from my second deployment I said f-it, I deserve this. I am wanting to build it going a more touring route and be able to drive the crap out of it.

So far I am in the planning stages while I am helping my buddy get his 71 firebird slowly put back together. As soon as it gets close we will be ripping mine apart for resto and mods...UGH, the options are endless. So far I am just chasing a few knick knack parts and trying to make it a bit more drivable and fixing little things. I have been researching "IE" trying to make up my mind as to which power train configuration I want to go with.  I am thinking either 440, newer hemi, or magnum 360 also possible turbocharger to either of these options.  Also definitely manual. either 833, or 5 or 6 speed depending on which engine I go with. As for the suspension I am trying to price it out and weigh my options of hotchkis kit, firmfeel steering box, braces and misc parts to go that route or just going to a tubular k frame. wheels and tires will be 18" and maybe 20" in the rear. Not sure on the brakes yet. The car will be used mostly for cruising, corner carving and occasional drags. I don't plan on going to ridiculous but it is going to be a bit of a street bruiser. Just wanting to make it a fun car.

Thanks to all for the good information and I appreciate the wealth of knowledge from everyone. Any input will also be greatly appreciated.

So for now I am researching. planning. and waiting.... Evil is coming   :villagers:

thanks. Sorry I was having a bit of insomnia last night when I posted. Apparently my newer digital camera takes pics that are way over what the site will allow you to post. I think I am going to tackle the suspension first off to make it more fun to drive. Here is a couple of pics. Don't let the paint fool you. My buddys nicknamed it lumpy due to the paint being nice but whoever did all the prep work was obviously not a body man. thanks again.

Welcome to the site and don't sweat the "lumpy"; at least you can drive it! Good luck with the modifications, too.
