Bigger is truly better in high-performance engines. Mopar has developed a huge 528 Hemi Crate Engine that cranks out a whopping 640 horsepower and 612 ft.- lbs. of torque! Mopar recommends that for maximum performance, an 850/900 cfm Holley carburetor and 2-1/4" exhaust headers be used (not available through Mopar). Shown with available Cross Ram Intake (P5007534), Holley Carburetors (P4452778 and P4452779), and Hemi Air Horns (P5007809). Refer to the Hemi and Fuel Systems sections of this catalog for details. Assembled by legendary Hemi engine builder Ray Barton for Mopar.

Specifications:

· Built with All-New Components

· Heavy-Duty, Siamese-Bore Cast Iron Block with Cross-Bolted Mains

· Aluminum Cylinder Heads

· Black Cast Aluminum Valve Covers

· Breathers

· Stainless Steel 2.25" Intake and 1.94" Exhaust Valves

· Heavy-Duty Single Valve Springs

· Premium Material Valve Stem Seals

· Camshaft grind selected by Ray Barton for Mopar's 528 Hemi

· Forged Pistons - 4.50" Bore, 10.0:1 C.R.

· Aluminum Single Plane Four-barrel Intake Manifold

· Forged Steel Crankshaft - 4.15" Stroke

· Precision Double Roller Timing Chain and Sprockets

· Chrome Front Cover

· Six-quart Center Sump Oil Pan (1970-71 B- and E-Body Style)

· Spark Plug Wires

· High-Performance Electronic Distributor

· Heavy-Duty Engine Stand and Shipping Crate

Note: 10.0:1 compression ratio with aluminum heads allows the use of current high-octane premium pump gasoline. Crate engines that change the emissions performance of the vehicle may not be legal for use on vehicles regulated for highway use in California and other states. Horsepower and torque ratings based on test engine. Ratings may vary on individual engines. Verify hood clearance for Intake Manifold.

Why not step up to a 572?

Cheaper:  http://www.moparperformanceonline.com/p-1272-572-hemi-crate-engine-650-horsepower-black.aspx

Also...perhaps give these guys a call.  Maybe for a little bit more, you can get one with a World aluminum block and save 100lb or more:

or

Ya, I would suggest frame connectors; definitely.  Torque boxes if using leaf springs.  Dana 60, blah blah blah.

I drive my pump gas 528" Hemi on the street all the time with no issues. It isn't a crate engine though. 800+ horsepower and no overheating issues. I run carbs though. Plenty of pep for it's size....  I think you will love it......    :burnout:   :cooldancing:

It still pulls 6800-7000, but I never twist it's tail very often. 95% of all dragstrip passes have been shifted around 6200-6400. It still runs a decent number, but not as fast, and it is alot easier on parts. If I want a better number, I just shift at a higher rpm. The higher rpm shifts are good for a about a tenth and a half with the current set-up....

I would do some research on crate motors from MP.

E.g.:

Not sure where the new ones are being built, but if built by Cummins, you're SOL.

better re think that 7000 plus rpm and 6 qt pan set up.  also, consider looking into heads ie.......not a crate engine.   The single springs will need to be up graded as with rocker system.   Read, read, read, then read some more, then ask questions.   Also, everything behind your engine plant needs to be bullit proof.  800 hp is a fairly easy goal. I do it with a non hemi.   Also, it should idle 1/3 rd as high as yer cheby with no problems.  The key to fast times is a light car. Takes less hp. Don't over gear a mopar. they make tq
