another thing that helped was a bigger speedo gear, that way the piece [ don't know what its called] that slips into the tranny for the speedo connection ends up further away from x member. its not much but it does make a difference. just depends on what gears your running for speedo to be accurate.

I went to 3.73 gears on mine as well and need a ratio adapter.  at this point I wish I'd kept my LA motor instead of the Hemi, so I can make my Tach work, but it runs well enough.

Anyway, that website doesn't show the trans adapters for our mopars, can you point me in hte right direction?

Completely automatic, wanted my daughter to be able to drive it.

The control module automatically turns on/off the overdrive and lock-up for the transmission.

The 518 (46RH) is hydraulically controlled and uses 2 servos to enable the OD and LU.
The 3-pin connector on the transmission supplies the control voltages.
The center pin always has 12V power connected.  The 2 outer pins are switched grounds.  The front pin is the OD ground, the rear pin is the LU ground.

The module works according to the following sequence.
1) The 12V toggle switch supplies voltage to the relays and transmission center pin.
2) When the hydraulic pressure trips (50mph/adjustable) the pressure switch, ground is supplied to the vacuum switch.  When speed is below 50mph, hydraulic switch opens, disabling OD.
3) When there is enough vacuum, the vacuum switch closes, providing  the OD relay ground.  Under heavy acceleration, vacuum drops, opens switch, OD is disabled.
4) When OD relay has ground and 12V, it waits 10sec, then supplies 12V to the LU relay and ground to the transmission OD pin, enabling OD.
5) Now the LU relay has 12V, it's already grounded.  It waits the 10 sec programmable delay then provides ground to the transmission LU pin. So lock up doesn't occur until OD has been enabled and on for 10sec.
6) The programmable delays for both relays fix the situation when speed is fluctuating around 50mph.  This would normally cause the OD to kick on/off, the 10 sec (programmable) delay stops this from happening.

Katfish you have gone to incredible lengths to explain and make what could appear to be hard into something we all could do making our Auto's give us more pleasure.

Super wiring diagram, nice write up.  I hadn't thought about a delay relay thats pretty slick,  I definitively have that gear hunting going on with my setup, I'm going to have to try that.  It would be nice to have the lights stay on a little longer too, so I may have to try one of those relays for the courtesy lights.  I'm using the Lokar kickdown cable on my car and am also having issues with it kicking down too.   Just need to play with it some more I guess.

This is such a great thread, it really needs to be archived.

I mounted the control box on the washer pump bracket.  I trimmed the bracket and mounted it upside down creating a perfect cradle to hold it.
If you don't want to cut/flip the bracket, you could just mount it on top of the bracket in the normal position with Velcro.

The clutch rod boot used for manual cars made the perfect grommet/feed for the wiring without cutting another hole in the firewall.

Which tranny is more durable.. A518 or GM 4L60 (made to adapt to Mopar SB)?  Which weighs more?  Which is more easy to install from the beginning?

My car is an automatic with a strong and reliable 727... but sure, someday I'd like to instal an OD tranny... keeping it fully automatic, yet it has to be strong and durable for manual up/down shifting (used for road course events and autocrossing).. driven to/from the events.

A-41 (4L65E) complete tranny with torque convertor is 189lbs ( not full of oil)
727 with TC oil drained out 170 lbs
I've been told by a buddy that was service manager and a Chrysler dealership that the 518 weights much more and more spinning weight. Not sure on shifting it? Bowler has a good rep building them with paddle shifters?  :dunno:
I know it's not a Mopar part.......  mine has been fine . I really like the controller , how I can choose hard and soft throttle , shift points, firm shift or not, what RPM the TC locks up at, when it unlocks etc....

I weighed the 518 and 727, it looks like the 518 adds about 60lbs
727 & TC: 131 + 32 = 163
518 & TC: 186 + 37 = 223
