Hey ff6849,
Looking at the pic you posted of your shifter console: did you have to modify the shifter detents on your shifter after you installed the A518?

No shifter modification was needed, but I did have to adjust and modified the shift linkage and fab up a bracket for the torque shaft rod for the gear sector. It needed to be reposition to clear the wider tail shaft on the A518. The A518 is basically a three speed transmission and the OD is build in the tail shaft.

That's right, just make a new bottom pivot point for the shifter linkage.  Works great, all rod lengths and angles are correct and remain the same.

i sourced a 1995 46RH 3 pin.   So its a lockup transmission.   I believe that means it has a 23 spline input shaft..  Right?   If that is the case then when selecting a torque converter is there a difference between 46rh locking and 46RE as far as the torque converter is concerned??   There are far more 46RE choices than 46RH locking listed.   What is a good torque converter within a budget??
Here is a 46RE listed as 2300-2600 stall for a great price.   Will it work correctly in a 1995 46RH!

Try looking up a company called dacco. They have a shop in most major US cities. They sell an inexpensive lockup converter with a higher stall speed. That's where I got mind. I think the stall was rated around 2200rpm.       daccoinc.com

Hey thanks for the Dacco suggestion.    Gave them a call and they have a site south side of Durham, drive able for me.    Talked with a technician, and the difference between the 1995 46rh Locking torque converter, and the 46RE torque converter is the attachment to the flexplate.   The 46RE has an offset bolt pattern, whereas the 1995 and older are 90 degree square pattern.   So, you could use an 46re torque converter if you use a flexplate made for the 46RE torque converter.

Their prices are very reasonable $129 so long as you stick with "stock" stall speed, which for 1995 with 360 engine is 2200-2500.   If you want higher stall like 2800-3200 then that is considered custom and the price rises to $325 nearly triple.  Since stock for a 95 360 was 2200-2500 i'm inclined to go with it.

Thanks again.

You have that backwards. '96 and later 46RE's have the 90* bolt pattern. You have to watch your flexplate weights also on the flexplate. 5.9 flexplate ('96 -up ) has a weight on it for engine balance.

The only difference is the weight being on the flex plate instead of the convertor, so it shouldn't matter so long as you match up the relevant flex plate and convertors, is this right then?

   Or...

Do the later 360 have a different weight, I believe the 5.9ltrs are balanced slightly different?

Yes, the 5.9 magnum engine balances with a different weight than the early 360 "LA" engine. With the old engines, stick with the early flexplate ( '91 pre magnum ) and use lock up 727 torqueflite converters for proper balance on the LA engines. 318 and 5.2 engines don't matter.

**Bringing this back from the dead.............

I have  a 1991 518 A 2 pin NON Lockup into my 572 Hemi....

It was heavily beefed up by one of the best guys around.... BUT Im curious on HOW to run the OD unit ..  i see the pact stuff on their site but it seems to be geared more for the 3 pin trans and the lockup setups

Im running a 3.54 gear and started to think do I even need to have an OD ??    What will my car be revving at 70 mph ?   Well I have the 518 in it now and started the  Ron Francis rewire

Its a pro touring with 18's front 19's rear ... any input and advice would be AWESOME on how I should work the OD I do not want to be pushing a switch at every stop light ... I wish it to be a true automatic ....

My friend had a case modified to fit behind his big block in a 36  Plymouth. He used the kit from The Transmission Center and says it was $85 and works great.

ya this is the kit from pact
https://www.transmissioncenter.com/shop/patc-727-to-518-46rh-conversion-kit-click-here-for-727-to-46rh-swap-wiring-diagram/

but it is for a 3 wire lockup   I have 2 wire non lock up.... SO Im thinking just eliminate the one pressure switch for the lockup portion....  and this should work for my 2 wire NON lockup  should be that EASY?

What will my car be revving at 70 mph ?

I don't know what the OD ratio you are looking at but if you know, here is how to calculate new rpm.
What is it revving at 70MPH now?
Example - 3250 RPM today at 70 x OD ratio = new RPM
OD with 0.78:1
.78 x 3250 = 2535 RPM at .78:1 OD
