Graveyard Carz - Velocity Channel - 14 June 2012 (tonight)
« Reply #15 on: June 15, 2012 - 09:11:18 AM »
I didn't care for it much. I love my mopars and they seem to know their stuff, but the arrogance is a bit more than I can take. Less drama, more building.

I agree that cc members could put on a better, more informative show.

This mark guy seems like a greasy used car salesman and an arrogant weasel up to this point. I will continue to watch in hopes of my initial impressions being wrong. One thing is for sure, at this point I would not consider their shop for a restoration.

I just watched the show and I hate to comment on drama shows but these guys are representing our mopar community.

I can get past the fact that this guy is a little off by saying that his non-speaking infant grand kid calls him "G" or that his lack of crayons as a kid somehow caused him to become color blind.

This guy says that he is a purist, which is fine.  I have nothing against him being a purist.  I am not.  I have always gone by the "original within reason" idea.  I have tried to restore my car as original looking as possable but still driveable.  You will not find dated coded hoses on my car.  My brake pads come from Napa, not the salvage yard.  You will never see me torch another perfectly good car to get a clevis pin.  Original clevis pin?  Really?

The real reason that I felt the need to comment is that I have a real problem with a couple of things at the end of the show when he was looking for a pink car and found the super bee.

When the two guys went to look at the Bee, they had the hood open before they even knew who owned the car, then in an interview he made a comment about some people get mad at him when he goes to look at cars.  Does he really wonder why?  I would never dream of opening a car door, much less the hood if the owner was not present!  Then when the owner wondered off to look for the fender tag, this guy actually starts scraping paint with his key and cutting rubber trunk lid seals.  Do I really need to say how many levels of wrong that is?  This Super Bee that he was looking at was not even actually for sale!  They just found it under a tree and went looking to buy it.

I am not just annoyed by this guy, I have some very real problems with this guy representing our hobby!

Could also be that he already bought the car, and that whole scene was just staged.  Wouldn't put it past today's "reality" TV programming.

Sure, that could be the case, but then the editor should have known better.

Mark is wrong on painting the hood.  Black first....  The black lacquer (Organisol) is sprayed on first an then the acrylic enamel color.

With todays urethane paints his way would be alright. Not correct.

Nats-level resto must always be "black first"  Rick from Mopar Action Mag.

I guess they can't remember their names so they flash their names in front of them thru the show.

I hope producers, creators, look at these blogs, forums, etc.  Love the premise of the show, but 5% of the show is about the carz and 95% is about, is about, is about, is about, Im still trying to figure it out......... Don't think this show will make another season and its on the way to the graveyard.  What say you???? Is the show format great or something to watch because nothing else is on or you have nothing else to do.  Mecum auctions is more fun along with Desert valley auto parts.

Forgot to mention if anyone watched todays Desert Valley Auto parts on Velocity.  They took a junkyard 68 charger and restored it in 2 weeks for their auction.  They show this several times to so people can catch up.

I really want to like this show but I can't. My biggest issue is that - and it's something that a lot of "reality" shows do - the pranks, arguments, complaining, pumpkin carving etc use to be what you'd get as a DVD "Behind the Scenes" extra, or get played through the closing credits. Now it's the main show.

This show could be awesome. It's low budget and everyone is very hands on and upfront. They're all accessible. Plenty of knowledge and ability. They've got a younger guy trying to learn. The main guy is the guy that started the show. It's not like some successful business was approached by some big network. It's low-key and down to earth rather than some big boisterous high dollar production company trying to recoup their investment. Yet they've tried to be "original" by doing what every other show does. No point going out of your way promoting a "Mopar" show when 80% of each episode has nothing to do with it.

This show could be awesome. It is unfortunately not.

I tried to watch it, but couldn't. 5 minutes in I started imagining my foot going through the screen.

I think a better premise for a show would be 'cars in barns' I would love to see a show about Ryan going around and finding all the cars in yards and barns

I`ve started to watch it twice and both times changed the channel withn 5 minutes.I might try again if I catch it on and actaully see them working on a car but otherwise it`s crap. Why do producers feel the need for all the drama when there are lots of auto related shows that are very successfull without it.Gearz,Hot Rod/Horsepower TV,Chop Cut Rebiuld,Musclecar,Trucks,My Classic Car,Dream Car Garage and more. All those shows had no drama or BS and did or are still doing well. Not everything has to try and be OCC and that idiot boss Mark does a poor job trying to a jerk-and he tries hard!
