Huh a 3 speed manual.  I thought those went away with the /6.  Learn something new every day.  What model would those be I wonder?

Same here, I was surprised to see the 3 speed manual as not only available but standard with both engines (318 & 340/360).  I remembered how Chrysler radically cut down on the drive-train combinations for the e-bodies.  I don't remember ever seeing an e-body with a 3 speed stick in it, they couldn't have sold very many of them.

If I recall correctly, in 71 insurance companies were defining musclecars/sports cars as having manual trans with 4 or more forward speeds. Mopars reaction to this, to try to keep sales afloat, was to make 3 speeds the base manual trans.

Yes, insurance companies were on the warpath.  I bought my first car in 1972.  As a teen aged driver, the first thing I shopped for was insurance and quickly figured out how to work around the premiums on performance cars.  I was paying for the car and all the expenses so big insurance premiums were a show stopper.

Every "performance" model was out, including the 'Cuda and any R/T model.  Any 4-speed was also out.  Funny thing was a 340 'Cuda with automatic was a performance car and I couldn't afford insurance, but for 1970 only, a 340 Challenger with an automatic was not a performance car and was insurable.  A 1971 Challenger R/T with a 340 was rated as a high risk / high premium car!  I always thought this is why Dodge dropped the R/T trim in 1972 on both the Charger & Challenger.

I looked long and hard for a 70 340 Challenger with auto, but never could find one.  Similar story with the Road Runner and Charger.  Road Runner with 335 hp 383 and 727 was high performance.  I found a 70 Charger SE with the 330 hp 383 and 727.  Insurance company rated it as a luxury ride and not a performance vehicle, and that solved my insurance problems...

I can't tell for sure form the pic, but it looks like you don't have the rod that connects the shifter to the transmission. The rod has 2 parts: A clevis with a lock bolt that is attached to the shifter and the rod itself that connects to the transmission. The rod slides fore and aft in the clevis and allows you to adjust the rod so that it shifts into all gears. If I can find a pic, I'll post it.

Looks like the rod and adjuster are available from Classic Industries. Here's a link:

Just remember, that all the floor shift brackets, console and linkage, and trans  on the later b-bodies are identical  So if you happen to be able to source parts from those models, they will work on your E-body as well.
