I forgot to bring up the gas smell, but the oil leak, I feel that i fixed it last week, There was a bolt that was loose on the manifold (i think that is what is called), We pulled it out and tightened it back up. I drove a good 20 miles and there was no oil on the hood underneath.

Since it seems that you described the distributor holdown bolt as loose, it's possible that the O-ring on the distributor may be either missing or just not sealing and it would leak oil if it was, but the advice to check the oil pressure sender and manifold is good advice, too. With the engine off, take a can of brake cleaner and wash the oil off the area around the distributor and the rear of the intake. When the engine is dry and not before, start it up and get in, under the hood and look at the area. If it's leaking as bad as you say, it shouldn't take long to push some oil out from where ever it's coming from and then, at least, you can perform a repair. Good luck  :2cents:

Thanks

Really frustrated right now, I took the car in and got a new starter put in and the drive home the shifting cable was melted by the exhaust and could shift into drive or anything else at the pump, had it towed back. I guess when they switch the starters they forgot to put the cable away and left it loose. Well the mechanic shop fixed it with no problems and was apologetic about it. Really nice owner and friendly they have been in business for over 27 years and only work on muscle cars so I had no worries Here is the problem, got home and notice the garage would was not open so I had to put it in reverse, well car would not shift in reverse or park so i had to go around the block  and pull it in. Any suggestions how to fix it. I am starting to think I made a bad choice on this car LOL, because of the luck i am having. I emailed the shop and hoping i get a response sometime soon, probably tomorrow since they are close.

Should be just an adjustment issue , hopefully the shop will take care of it & test drive it before they let you leave with it

Well I played with it for bit and I finally figured it out. Its really a lot better so that is nice,

I was wondering what you guys think about these prices that I got from the shop on certain items they think I should get fixed, all prices are total for parts and labor. I am just curious is these are good prices or should i shop around.

810 dollars for steering box, it is worn out,

755 dollars for replacement of single cylinder master, I think

250 dollars for transmission output seal

80dollars for dye to check oil leaks

Really? I wish I could learn this stuff on the fly or just find someone who knew how to do it. I guess I will just shop around and see if I could find a cheaper place.

the trans seals is $25 , it takes maybe 30 mins to install including removing the driveshaft & topping up the fluid .
that kind of money you could buy me a plane ticket & pay me to do the work & still break even .
Are you converting to a dual master cylinder adding a proportioning  valve& running new lines or just replacing the single master ? Power steering or std ?

Thanks for the heads up on the transmission seals, Yes they said they were going to redo the plumbing so I am guessing that means new lines. I did find another place that was at the Mopar show this last weekend and asked them what the price would be on it and they said it is about 4 hours of work at 72 dollars an hour and the shop said they have done the same swap using a 71 barracuda master cylinder which costs approx $60. Does that sound right? I know the last shop that gave me quote of 755 dollars was going to use a wilwood, I guess that is the best to use, I notice all the cars in the shop had the same in them.

Yeah a master will run 70 - $120 or so , you will need a proportioning valve , I would recommend the wilwood 5 line unit for this , probably $100 or so & you will need to make a few changes to the brake lines , well worth doing , safer for sure . , not $800 worth though . I usually charge $50 / hr , 4 hours should do it + parts , maybe $400 total .

WOW Chryco - if you weren't in Panama I'd be paying you to work on my car. $50 per hour I can hardly afford to do it myself.
